HARARE, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The two-day visit to Zimbabwe by Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi starting Thursday is an endorsement of relations between the Southern African country and China, local figures told Xinhua.Former Zimbabwean ambassador to China Chris Mutsvangwa said in an interview on Tuesday that Yang's visit will also boost economic relations between the two countries."The visit of a foreign minister is a big banner announcement to say that relations between Zimbabwe and China are reaching for a new level," he said."This is a visit which will mark a new diplomatic high watermark in Zimbabwe's international relations because to get the visit of an important and emerging super-power like China with such economic clout is a big vote of confidence on the part of Zimbabweans who have been pummeled by sanctions" imposed by the West.Yang, who will make the visit at the invitation of Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, is scheduled to meet President Robert Mugabe and other senior government officials.Mutsvangwa said the Chinese veto at the United Nations in 2008 was "a landmark diplomatic decision where it basically saved Zimbabwe from punitive sanctions instigated by an irate and sulky former colonial power.""So, now this visit will give an opportunity for Zimbabweans tofinally thank China for this act. BEIJING, April 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Doctors may choose riskier treatment with fewer severe side effects for themselves than they'd recommend for their patients, according to a study in the Archives of Internal Medicine Tuesday. In the study, two sets of questions were sent to primary care physicians around the United States. One involved choosing between two types of colon cancer surgery and the other situation involved choosing no treatment for the flu, or choosing a made-up treatment less deadly than the disease but which could cause permanent paralysis. Of 242 physicians who answered the colon cancer questionnaire, 38 percent went with the treatment that carried a higher risk of death but fewer side effects for themselves. By contrast, only a quarter said they would recommend that treatment to their patients.In the flu scenario, 63 percent chose the deadlier option of no treatment for themselves, versus 49 percent recommending it for patients.The findings are important because patients faced with difficult medical decisions often ask their doctors, "What would you do?" The answer reflects the doctors' values -- not necessarily those of the patients.Doctors should know what their patients value most before giving advice, and patients should ask doctors the reasons behind their answers, said study author Dr. Peter Ubel, an internist and behavioral scientist at Duke University.

CAIRO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The first training session for Egyptian Chinese language teachers to improve their teaching ability started on Sunday in Cairo.The session, under the supervision of the Chinese Confucius institute, will concentrate on the exchange of experiences in teaching the Chinese language in Egypt and the enhancement of Egyptian teachers' ability to make better use of the textbooks.The three-day training session will contain language and cultural courses by professors and instructors from famous Chinese universities such as Beijing University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, said Li Shengjun, head of the Confucius Institute at Cairo University.Nearly 60 Egyptian Chinese language teachers, including 14 professors, from universities including Cairo University, Ain Shams University and Minya University will attend the training courses.China has established 691 Confucius institutes and classes in around 69 countries until 2010, including nine in the Arab countries.
