INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis lawyer is accused of flashing a bus carrying a girls' basketball team on two separate occasions while driving. Norwell High School girls’ basketball coach Eric Thornton said he was driving the girls to a tournament in June when a man pulled up beside their bus on I-70 near the airport and exposed himself. “He knew it was a school bus,” said Thornton. “(He) knew it was high school aged females on the bus.”The man, who police have identified as Raymond Fairchild, then exited the highway before the team could get the license plate on his Honda CRV. “The girls were horrified and just very disturbed,” said Thornton. In an attempt to identify the alleged flasher, Thornton posted a photo taken moments before the incident on social media. That post made its way to Union City where a second girls’ basketball team reported a similar incident last February – from what appeared to be the same man. “Once we found out that he’d done it before it was obvious this was a pattern,” said Thornton. It didn’t take long before someone on Facebook recognized that man as Fairchild and contacted investigators. The 71-year-old is listed as having a law office in downtown Indianapolis. “He should never be allowed to practice law again in my opinion,” said Thornton. “He should be put away for a time.”Fairchild now faces six counts of public nudity and indecency charges. His first court appearance is set for October 26. “It’s a crime against innocent, na?ve girls who just saw abnormal behavior and had no idea what would happen next,” said Thornton. “He needs to be severely punished for his behavior.”  1669

Investigators have found evidence that a missing University of Iowa student was doing homework on her laptop the night she went missing, according to the woman's brother.Mollie Tibbets, 20, went missing on July 18 when she went jogging near Brooklyn, Iowa. TIbbets' brother, Jake, says investigators found that evidence that she was on her laptop that evening.The older brother of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts says investigators told him evidence shows she was doing homework on her computer last Wednesday evening. Tibbets was reportedly dog-sitting for her boyfriend, Jack Dalton, at the time of her disappearance. It is unclear if she returned after her jog, but the new details, family members say it is possible she did. Investigators previously executed a search warrant for Tibbits' Fitbit and social media accounts. A spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations said Tibbets' case may be the first time Fitbit data has been used in an investigation in the state.  1043

Injured Buffalo protester Martin Gugino has been released from the hospital, nearly four weeks after he was pushed to the ground by two Buffalo police officers.Gugino, 75, will be recovering at an undisclosed location to protect his privacy, according to his attorney Kelly Zarcone."Martin wants to thank the entire hospital staff for their exceptional dedication and professionalism," Zarcone said. "He received truly outstanding care and for that, he is grateful."Gugino has been at ECMC since June 4, when he was shoved to the ground outside Buffalo City Hall by officers Aaron Torgalski and Robert McCabe. Gugino's skull was fractured when the back of his head hit the sidewalk. The fall, which was captured on cell phone video, happened moments after Gugino approached a moving line of officers.Torgalski and McCabe are facing second-degree assault charges. It looked down over Celina, Tennessee like a watchful eye, and for decades, Cumberland River Hospital provided a sense of security for this struggling rural county.But now, the hospital sits empty and dark; its hallways filled with silence. The death of this county’s only hospital has thrust this place into darkness, and dozens more like it across the country are potentially about to suffer the same fate.“We are seeing a huge divide in healthcare among Americans,” explained Johnny Presley, the owner of this small rural hospital.Hospitals across the country are struggling now more than ever, as patients are still avoiding elective surgeries because of COVID-19. Those are the bread and butter of most hospital's bottom line.In Celina, Tennessee, a town of about 1,400 people, the hospital also served as the county’s biggest employer. Presley spent months fighting with Medicare for reimbursement payments until he was finally forced to close the emergency room.He’s poured million of his own money into the hospital in an attempt to save its life.“When people can’t live in the rural communities they grew up in without access to healthcare, it’s almost like you’re in a prison,” he said.The cruel irony of a hospital closing in the middle of a pandemic is not lost on anyone who lives in this or any other rural community in America. At this hospital alone, they were able to stabilize or save more than a dozen COVID-19 patients over the past few months. Patients that now will be forced to drive more than an hour for care to the next closest emergency room.“So, many people are going to die. They’re gonna die because they don’t get the emergency care they need,” said Stephen Headrick, who lives in Celina and has relied on this emergency room countless times over the years.Since 2005, a staggering 174 rural hospitals have shut down nationwide. Fifteen of those closures happened this year alone, leaving a vacuum of care in their absence. Texas and Tennessee lead the nation in hospital closures.By the end of this year, hospitals across the country are expected to lose more than 0 billion, a staggering statistic that ripples far beyond the walls of any emergency room.When Cumberland River closed, nearly 100 doctors, nurses and staff were let go. By some estimates, 2020 may end up claiming the lives of nearly 200 more hospitals.“To keep our hospitals open during this pandemic, the government has to intervene,” Presley explained.With federal aid, Presley could reopen the hospital tomorrow, but so far, his pleas to politicians have gone unanswered.“I think it’s just a travesty that this country is going through. This country is so polarized that the most basic human needs of food and healthcare are being overlooked,” he said.Rural lifelines are on life support as American lives hang in the balance. 2841
