WASHINGTON — As COVID-19 cases skyrocketed before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus response warned Americans to “be vigilant” and to limit celebrations to “your immediate household.” For many Americans that guidance has been difficult to abide, including for Dr. Deborah Birx herself. The day after Thanksgiving, Birx traveled to one of her vacation properties on Fenwick Island in Delaware. She was accompanied by three generations of her family from two households. (KGTV) - Two Sheriff's deputies are under an internal review after video surfaced of an arrest in the North County this week.A 911 call was made Monday from a woman on Madera Lane, who said she was a domestic violence victim and being held against her will, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded and said they ultimately arrested Gerardo Martinez Jr., 23, and 50-year-old Gerardo Martinez Sr.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe younger was booked on charges including false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and disobeying a court order. SDSO charged Martinez Sr. with obstructing a public officer and removing someone from the lawful custody of a peace officer, though he has bailed out of custody.Video of the arrest, however, soon landed at least two deputies involved with the arrest in hot water.The footage posted on social media showed one of the men being led away in handcuffs before a deputy appears to shove him into a fence. The man's face is slammed into the wooden fence before the deputy leads him away.At the same time, four other deputies hold the second man to the ground, one of them appears to repeatedly strike the man in the head. It isn't clear if the man on the ground was also handcuffed or whether the deputy struck the man with a closed fist or open hand.Two deputies have been placed on administrative assignment, pending an internal investigation, SDSO said Wednesday. Investigators will be looking at body-worn camera and interviews with those involved in the incident."As we continue to gather and evaluate the facts of this case, the internal review might change in scope. Walmart will roll out a new website next month.The nation's largest retailer announced Tuesday that its redesigned site will offer more personalization, include more vibrant colors and a cleaner design, and feature "relatable photography that showcases real-life moments."The homepage will include a new section that showcases top-selling items in a customer's location. It will also offer specialty shopping experiences, such as the Lord & Taylor flagship online store which is launching this spring. That partnership was first announced last fall.Walmart has become one of the major platforms for online sales. It's taken aim at Amazon by offering free shipping without a membership fee for most purchases of or more. Online has become the fast growing part of Walmart's business, with the company forecasting 40% growth in those sales this year. And it has announced plans to bring online grocery delivery to 100 markets by the end of this year.But it has not been without bumps. The Walla Walla Public Library can relate, and they have a real life mystery on their hands after moving the mystery books section.According to a post on social media, the Washington town’s library was moving their mystery collection as part of a larger library layout change, when a facilities crew member discovered a secret panel.“Along with the usual dust and dead bugs, he found five unopened cans of ‘the beer refreshing’ and some monstrously stale gum still in its vibrant packaging, along with a moldering paper bag,” the post reads.The library is assuming someone stashed their loot behind the shelving and wasn’t able to retrieve it.Some good old-fashioned sleuthing leads the library to believe the snacks have been sitting in the secret panel for about 30 years.“Godzilla Heads gum dates to the late 1980s, and the rule that requires warnings to be printed on alcohol containers was enacted in November 1988. So we think the goods were there for upward of 30 years,” the City of Walla Walla states. 1169
