SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Navy official says three reported incidents depicting unidentified flying objects (UFOs), including one near San Diego in 2004, are real.Joseph Gradisher, spokesperson for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare, told The Black Vault, a website that investigates declassified government documents, the events shown in the three videos taken by Navy pilots depict "unexplained aerial phenomena" or "UAPs." Gradisher went on to say while the videos were declassified, they were never cleared for public release.The videos were posted for the public in December 2017 by the New York Times and To The Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, a group that researches UFOs co-founded by the Poway native and former Blink 182 member Tom DeLonge.RELATED: Video shows UFO encounter off San Diego's coastGradisher told the The Black Vault the term UAP is used, "because it provides the basic descriptor for the sightings/observations of unauthorized/unidentified aircraft/objects that have been observed entering/operating in the airspace of various military-controlled training ranges."He added the Navy has not officially released any description of the incidents. The three videos, titled "FLIR1," "Gimbal," and "GoFast," show separate UAP incidents captured by Navy pilots. Navy Commander David Fravor told 10News he was piloting the FA-18 that captured the incident during a Navy training mission."I have never seen anything in my life that has the performance, the acceleration. Keep in mind this thing had no wings," Fravor said of the 2004 incident. “It's moving around, left, right, forward, back. The radar starts being jammed. All of a sudden it takes off."Several months later, "Gimbal" and "GoFast" were released. "GoFast" reportedly took place in 2015. It shows a camera and sensor aboard a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet jet track a fast-moving object, before pilots lock onto it."Whoa, we got it!" exclaims one pilot. Another pilot asks, "Wow, what is that, man? Look at that flying!"The Navy's classification and timing couldn't be better for DeLonge, who is set to debut a new miniseries on the History Channel. The six-part series "Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation" will feature DeLonge's interview with a former military intelligence official, Luis Elizondo, who confirmed the Pentagon's UFO program.The show will also feature interviews with other former government and aerospace officials and, "produce tangible evidence to build the most indisputable case for the existence and threat of UFOs." 2794

Students in the culinary training program get 100 hours of paid training, working with professional chefs.Kyle Lovell was a student in the program and ultimately landed a full-time job at the Hyatt as a cook."We're all here at the end of the day to work, to find a job, to make it on our own," said Lovell, "I hope everyone that has a disability knows they aren't alone."Lovell has a learning disability, but the program works with people ranging from physical disabilities to hearing impairment."I hope employers will see there are people out there with challenges that can work really hard and do a really good job," said Lovell.While unemployment hovers around 4 percent, it's twice as high for people with disabilities.The state-funded program is a partnership of Florida-based company Hands on Educational Services.Anyone interested in applying can learn more here. 1082

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hazardous Materials Team is investigating a Rancho Bernardo residence following reports of a possible fentanyl overdose death at the home Thursday morning.Crews responded at around 4 a.m. to calls of an overdose at a residence at 11300 Calenda Road located a few blocks from Westwood Elementary School.First responders discovered an unconscious 27-year-old male. The victim was declared deceased at the scene, according to San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials. Neighbors told 10News the man lived at the home with his parents.While at the scene, our 10News crew saw a woman being escorted out of the house and placed in an ambulance. It’s still unclear how she’s involved.The San Diego County Medical Examiner will identify the man and confirm his cause of death. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man convicted of killing a San Diego Police officer in 1978 in the city's Skyline neighborhood has been granted parole by a review board.Jesus Cecena was convicted of killing SDPD officer Archie Buggs on Nov. 4, 1978, during a traffic stop. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after shooting the 30-year-old officer four times before killing him with a final shot at point-blank range, according to the San Diego District Attorney's office.According to Deputy District Attorney Richard Sachs on Wednesday, the parole board feels Cecena is no longer a risk to society. The San Diego District Attorney's office believes he should remain in prison."He hasn't come to grips with the crime. He doesn't own the causative factors of this offense. He does not accept his true motivation behind committing this crime," Sachs told 10News anchor Lindsey Pena on Tuesday.The former gang member was 17-years-old at the time of the slaying. His prison term was later modified to seven years-to-life due to his age, making him eligible for Youth Offender Parole.Since then, Cecena has been denied parole at least 14 times, the latest being 2019, 2017, 2016, and 2014. Each time, the seriousness of his crime was cited. The DA's office told 10News last year that Cecena has had an unstable social history in prison, receiving more than 10 violation reports for misconduct.Last year, Gov. Gavin Newsom denied Cecena parole.Tuesday, Pena spoke with Buggs' former partner, Jesse Navarro. Navarro was there the day he and his partner made the traffic stop and remembers the day vividly."It was a planned execution by gang members in the area. They'd been talking about killing a police officer in the area for a number of months," Navarro recalls.Buggs died right in Navarro's arms.
