The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling nearly half a million Kidde smoke detectors, saying they could fail to work in the event of a fire.According to the CPSC, anyone with a Kidde smoke alarm should remove their alarm from the ceiling or wall and look for a yellow cap on the inside of the alarm (see photo above). Those who find a yellow cap should contact Kidde for a replacement, and should not try and remove the yellow cap. Those who do not find a yellow cap in their smoke alarm can continue using the device normally. The alarms were sold at Menards, The Home Depot, Walmart, Amazon and Kidde's website between September 2016 and this January. The following models are covered in the recall:PI9010 (DC/battery powered)Date code: 2016 Sep. 10 through 2017 Oct. 13PI2010 (AC/hardwired)Date code: 2016 Sep. 10 through 2017 Oct. 13If you are covered by the recall, contact Kidde toll-free at 833-551-7739 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The Republican National Committee spent more than 0,000 in August to cover some of President Donald Trump's legal fees associated with the federal investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, an RNC official told CNN on Tuesday. The RNC sent 1,250 to Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow, via the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, and 0,000 to John Dowd, the attorney Trump hired in June, the official said. The payments will be disclosed in the RNC's spending report for the month of August, which will be released on Wednesday.Reuters first reported on Tuesday that the RNC was helping Trump with his legal payments associated with the special counsel's investigation. CNN first obtained the total amount of the RNC's spending on Trump's legal bills. The President's legal bills were covered through the RNC's legal defense fund -- not its political coffers -- which the RNC official said was established in 2014 to cover legal fees associated with election-related litigation. The RNC's payments to cover Trump's legal bills come despite the President's claims that his net worth is in excess of billion. The party official said the committee has not yet decided whether it will continue to make payments to cover the President's legal bills. The RNC is just the latest Trump-supporting political group to get involved in making legal payments related to the Russia probe.Last quarter, the Trump campaign spent more than 7,826 on legal fees. Though it's unclear what portion of those fees are going to attorney fees related to the Russia investigation, the campaign has employed attorneys to comply with Russia-related requests and has also made payments to the attorney representing the President's son Donald Trump Jr. in the Russia probe. The Trump campaign spent nearly 0,000 in legal consulting fees -- or about 15.5% of the campaign's expenses between April 1 and June 30, according to the latest Federal Election Commission report. 1992
The Vans Warped Tour, a long-running punk rock tour and festival that pushed the genre into national relevance, will end after 2018.Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman shared the news on the tour's website, in an essay headlined "All Good Things Must Come to an End.""It will be bittersweet each morning when I see the sun rise and then watch it set knowing that this will be the last time I get to witness it from that exact spot," Lyman wrote. "Though the tour and the world have changed since ’95, the same feeling of having the ‘best summer ever’ will live on through the bands, the production teams, and the fans that come through at every stop."The Warped Tour has been a summer staple in American cities since 1995. Each year, festival tour featured dozens of acts and multiple stages throughout cities in North America. Acts like Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, The Offspring, Simple Plan and Sum 41 got their start on the tour and helped start a pop punk revolution in the late '90s and early 2000sThough Lyman said the 2018 tour would be the festival's last, he also wrote that he is currently preparing a 25th anniversary celebration for the first Warped Tour in 2019.The cities and dates of the final Warped Tour are listed below. 1259
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded two earthquakes in Tennessee early Wednesday. The first happened at about 3:15a.m. and was reported to be a magnitude 4.4. The second was recorded at about 3:30a.m. and was a magnitude 3.3.According to the USGS Intensity map, as of 3:45a.m., more than 2000 people reported feeling the earthquakes across Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, and Georgia. Some people reported feeling weak shaking in areas of Middle Tennessee, like Hendersonville, Cookeville, and Murfreesboro. According to the National Weather Service office in Morristown, the largest earthquake on record in East Tennessee was a magnitude 4.7 near Marysville in 1973. The USGS?studied the reason why earthquakes are felt at much farther distances on the east coast, compared with earthquakes that hit the west coast. Researchers found that some factors have to do with tectonic plates and their geological history. The east coast has older rocks, which researchers said allow seismic waves "to cross them more effectively during an earthquake." 1084
The shortest day in what feels like the longest year has arrived. Monday is the Winter Solstice, the day each year when there is the least amount of sunshine in the Northern Hemisphere. The Winter Solstice is the official first day of winter, which lasts until March 20, 2021. It’s when the sun appears at its most southern position in the sky.If it has felt like the world has been getting darker and darker the last six months, that’s because it kind of has been. As the sun spent less and less time shining on the Northern Hemisphere. The closer a person is to the North Pole, the less time they will see the sun. People in Nome, Alaska will only have roughly 3 hours and 54 minutes of sunshine on Monday. There will now begin to be slightly more daylight each day until the Summer Solstice, which is on June 20, 2021.In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: it’s the day each year with the most sunshine and marks the beginning of summer in places like Australia, Argentina and South Africa. Many traditional celebrations on the solstice were canceled this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Including at the world famous Stonehenge, where there is usually a large annual celebration on the solstices. 1222
