SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A legendary sports radio station is returning to Southern California airwaves with an updated name.The Mighty 1090 abruptly went off the air on April 10, 2019, due to an issue between the station’s parent company and the owners of the Mexico-based radio tower that distributes the station’s signal.But on Monday, Aug. 17, the station once known as the Mighty 1090 will be back on the 1090 AM radio dial as "The Mightier 1090.”Bill Hagen of Mightier 1090 said in a news release, “It’s taken a tireless amount of work from a number of great people to get us to this point. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A random act of kindness at a Rancho Bernardo grocery store has a grateful grandma paying it forward. Kathy Yezarski went to the Albertsons at Rancho Bernardo and Poway Roads Friday night to buy milk and cereal for her grandchildren, who were staying at her home. She was about to pay for her groceries when she noticed a problem. “When I got to the checkout I was really embarrassed to see that I didn’t have my wallet,” Yezarski said. Yezarski thought she’d have to leave the items behind and return home when “a very kind young man” noticed her dilemma. “The man behind me very quickly said ‘I’ve got this,’” Yezarski said. Yezarski was mortified she had forgotten her wallet. “It was really touching to me…heartwarming that he would do that for someone.” Yezarski was so moved, she posted about the kind act on the Nextdoor app for her neighborhood. She was hoping the young man would see the post but she wasn’t expecting the reaction she received. “I didn’t realize when I posted until after I posted that two previous posts had been about recent shootings, and I think people were just reeling from that, feeling so upset and I think they needed to hear something positive. A lot of people said that: thank you for restoring my faith in humanity,” Yezarski said. She was inspired to perform a kind act of her own. “Beyond just thanking him, I thought - I’ve got to pay this forward. I went on the website for the San Diego Food Bank and donated. I thought, wow, I can’t just let this stop here, I can’t. I need to do that, he triggered this desire in me to pay this forward.” Yezarski hopes the young man realizes the power of his generosity. “I would want to tell him ‘you’re awesome’, you are just an amazing person and just thank you because you started something that really touched a lot of people,” she said. 1848

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan that has the potential to triple Mission Valley's population by 2050 will be voted on by the San Diego City Council Tuesday.The city will vote on the final draft of the proposed Mission Valley Community Plan. It replaces the last plan that was written back in 1985. Supporters say it will help address the region's housing crisis. "One of the biggest problems we've had in the city is our community plans haven't been updated in decades. So, whenever developers come in and want to build housing they have to get conditional use permits and that takes sometimes over years to get accomplished, and that drives the cost of housing up," said councilman Scott Sherman whose district includes Mission Valley.Currently, Mission Valley is zoned mixed-use and residential. The new plan would rezone it to almost all mixed-use. Developers would be able to build up to 145 housing units per acre, instead of 73 units per acre. "Apartments and condos, density around mass transit, that's the whole idea, we need housing so let's make it more dense around transit oriented hubs, cause we have the trolley that runs right through Mission Valley," said Sherman. People who work in Mission Valley are worried that traffic will be a nightmare in an area already known for gridlock. "It's already congested as it is, so to build more, where?" asked Eni O'Donnell. "It depends on how well they plan integrating it all in, if you bring in 50,000 people overnight, then obviously, that's not going to work," said Archie Kordestani who lives in Civita. The plan includes several new bike and pedestrian bridges, connectors to help with traffic, and more transit stops along the trolley's green line. "Busing, biking, trolleys, I think these are the ways to go," said Kordestani.The project also includes 160 acres of park space and two schools. If it gets final approval, builders can start applying for permits in the next few months."If you make the rules in place and make it easier for people to build, they'll come in and build and the price should go down, cause right now our housing crisis is really a supply issue," said Sherman. 2155

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken Allied Gardens homeowner is pleading for the return of a stolen trailer? which contained the belongings of her hospitalized mother.When Erin Rose went out to the driveway of her home on Delbarton Street Friday morning, she froze. "My heart just dropped into my stomach. I felt nauseous," said Rose.Missing from her driveway was her 5-ft x 8-ft trailer. Drag marks revealed how it left the home."You can see it extends all the way to the street ... and to the intersection," said Rose.Rose had locked up the trailer in two places. The only thing she found were the remnants of one of the locks."Just heartbreaking and sad," said Rose. The trailer contained all the belongings of her mother Gail, 74, a part-time San Diegan recently hospitalized in Wisconsin with a heart condition. Rose had been storing her mother's belongings since buying a home months ago."That's all my mom has left. Now she has nothing," said Rose.Inside the trailer: furniture, household items, and some jewelry, including family heirlooms. There was also a lifetime of photos. Most of them haven't been digitized. Rose waited a week to tell her mother, until she was strong enough to receive the news."She cried, she cried. She knew she couldn't get stressed out, couldn't get her heart rate up. Right now she's focusing on her health. Hasn't really hit her she's going to come back to nothing," said Rose.Rose is now hoping to change that by making a plea for tips."I just want when she comes back to be able to have her photos on her nightstand.
