BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- CNC World, the English-language channel of Xinhua News Agency's TV arm, CNC, will reach cable television audiences in Africa from Jan. 1, 2011, according to an agreement signed Friday between CNC and South Africa-based MIH Group.The English-language channel of China Xinhua News Network Corporation (CNC) will be available to 4 million African families through MIH's cable network.Xinhua President Li Congjun met Koos Bekker, founder of MIH, before the signing of the agreement. Both sides expressed their hope CNC will be a competitive and influential international media organization.On Thursday, Xinhua signed an agreement with Eutelsat Communications to extend the coverage of CNC to all of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa from Jan. 1, 2011, through Eutelsat Communications' Eurobird, Hotbird and W7 satellites.CNC World broadcasts English news programs 24 hours a day and covers breaking news and major political, economic and cultural news from around the world.Launched in 2009, CNC has developed into a television network with satellite services in the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe and Africa.It is also expanding its cable television and new media services and provides news programs to about 300 domestic and overseas television organizations.

BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's official Xinhua News Agency on Saturday formally launched its financial information exchange, an information sharing platform in the financial and cultural sectors to promote development of the nation's capital market.Approved by the People's Bank of China, or the central bank, it is the world's first financial information exchange.It is funded by and registered with the China Finance Corporation (CFC), owned by Xinhua.Located in the Lize business district in the southwest of downtown Beijing, the exchange has the world's largest LCD panel groups at 7,593 inches, which show real-time information in the finance and cultural industries.Member users can also get the latest information on technology transfers and business consultations.The exchange would improve Xinhua's presence and influence in the global financial information sector and enhance China's soft power in the international capital markets, said Xinhua president Li Congjun at the inauguration ceremony."It aims to be a fair, just, professional and highly efficient intermediary service platform in the financial information and cultural sectors to promote information sharing among the cultural sector, industries and the capital markets," he said."The ultimate goal is to become the world's most influential financial information and cultural industry service center."

EDINBURGH, Britain, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang arrived here on Sunday for a four-day official visit to Britain.Upon his arrival, Li said in a statement delivered at the airport that recent years have seen steady progress in China-Britain relations and that increasingly strong political ties and fruitful cooperation across the board have brought real benefits to the peoples in both countries."In the midst of profound changes of the global landscape, closer cooperation between China and Britain will not only benefit the two counties and peoples, but also contribute to world peace, stability and prosperity," he added.Li stressed that he hopes to explore with the British side ways to cooperate more closely and turn the two countries into partners of mutual respect and equality in the political arena, partners of mutual benefits and shared growth on the economic front and partners of close coordination and equal cooperation on international affairs.Edinburgh is Li's first stop in Britain. BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's apparent consumption of crude steel is likely to reach 596 million tonnes this year, a year-on-year increase of 5.6 percent, according to a steel association official.Apparent consumption represents the sum of net imports and output, and can be used to estimate real consumption excluding inventory.Luo Bingsheng, deputy head of the China Iron and Steel Association, expected the country's crude steel output to climb 8.2 percent this year from one year earlier, to reach 624 million tonnes.Luo further noted that a rising investment in 2011 would result in an increase in China's steel demand.If the year-on-year growth of the country's social fixed assets investment maintained itself at around 20 percent next year, China's crude steel apparent consumption would see an annual increase of 40 million to 50 million tonnes next year, said Luo.
