Excessive alcohol use could increase your risk for all types of dementia, particularly early-onset dementia, according to a new study.The study, published Tuesday in the journal Lancet Public Health,?looked at over 1 million adults released from French hospitals between 2008 and 2013 who were diagnosed with dementia, a clinical syndrome characterized by a progressive deterioration in cognitive ability.Using data from the French National Hospital Discharge database, the researchers found that alcohol-use disorders were diagnosed in 16.5% of the men with dementia and 4% of the women with dementia -- over twice as much as in those without dementia for both sexes.Alcohol-use disorders refer to "the chronic harmful use of alcohol or alcohol dependence," the researchers wrote.In order to isolate the role of alcohol use, patients with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and Huntington's, which can also lead to dementia, were excluded from the study."The most novel result is the large contribution of alcohol-use disorders to the burden of dementia over the lifespan," said Dr. Michael Schwarzinger, a researcher at the Transitional Health Economics Network in Paris and a leading author of the study.The association was particularly strong for those with early-onset dementia, diagnosed when the patient is younger than 65. (KGTV) - Paralympic Triathlete Amy Dixon trains, and lives by a simple motto: No Sight, No Limits.Now, new technology is taken even more of her limits away.Dixon is 98% blind, the result of a rare autoimmune disorder she got in her early 20s.Over the summer, she started using the IrisVision headset, which has helped give her a full field of vision."I can only see my knuckles and part of my fingers. The fingertips and palm are completely missing," Dixon explains when describing her sight. "With the headset, I saw my whole hand for the first time in 22 years!"The IrisVision Headset uses cameras mounted to a virtual reality-style headset. Technology within the headset helps focus the camera's view onto the part of the retina that can still process light. That creates a fuller picture for the wearer."It takes what's in front of you and remaps it on the digital screen inside the headset in a way that you can see," says IrisVision CEO Ammad Khan."I cannot wait to see how this technology will help hundreds of thousands of people around the world," he says.Dixon says it's helping her with the mundane, everyday aspects of training for the Paralympics."Writing sponsors, working on a computer, emails, doing expense reports and progress reports for USA Triathlon; it enables me to do all of that," she says. "That's equally as important as my training."Khan says this will help people with limited sight be able to do things like watch tv, play cards, go to movies, cook, navigate around their house, and all of the other mundane daily activities that people will full sight take for granted.He also says that this could help people stay in jobs longer, even as their eyesight gets worse.The headset is also equipped with Amazon Alexa and several other apps to make life easier.It was developed with the help of Johns Hopkins University and has FDA Approval. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — One person is dead following a multi-car crash on Interstate 15 in North San Diego County.A 25-year-old man from Chula Vista was behind the wheel of a Mustang traveling southbound on I-15 collided with at least three vehicles just before 6:30 a.m. just north of the State Route 76 connector, according to California Highway Patrol.The driver of the Mustang was seriously injured and taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he later died. Fans of Nutella are going absolutely nuts after the brand changed its recipe.Nutella said in a post on its German Facebook page on Tuesday that it was "fine tuning" its recipe. It said the addition of more powdered milk increased the spread's sugar content.The brand's U.S. Twitter page also confirmed the recipe had changed. The news was met with howls of rage on the internet, where loyal customers professed their love for the old recipe."OMG!! They are changing the recipe of #Nutella!!!," wrote one Twitter user. "NOOOOOOOO HOW DARE THEY!! Leave the sugar & coco alone!!!"The recipe change was first publicized by the Hamburg Consumer Protection Center, which said last week that the tweak had made the chocolate spread's color lighter.The group said that, according to the ingredient list printed on Nutella packaging, the proportion of skimmed milk powder had increased to 8.7% from 7.5%."Cocoa has slipped back in the list of ingredients," it said. (KGTV) — Police have arrested a North County doctor accused of sexually assaulting a patient.On March 28, Escondido Police say a woman reported being sexually assaulted while unconscious by Dr. Leng Thai Ky, a 40-year-old anesthesiologist from Poway.EPD detectives investigated the woman's report over the weekend, and arrested Ky on Monday with the help of the U.S. Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force.Ky, a doctor for the last eight years, has associations with Palomar Hospital, North County Pain Institute, Sharp Community Medical Group, Graybill Medical Group, and the Desert Pain Clinic in Rancho Mirage, EPD says.Police believe there are more, unidentified victims of Ky and urge anyone with information to call EPD at 760-839-4790. 760
