MOSCOW, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator, met with Russian Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov on Thursday. Both leaders stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation and the unique role it serves bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress(NPC), hailed the bilateral parliamentary cooperation at various levels in recent years. In particular, such cooperation should first serve the strategic mutual trust and the interests of the common concerns of China and Russia.     The NPC and the Russian Parliament should provide firm support to each other on major issues involving state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security, he said.     The two should also reinforce strategic cooperation in international and regional parliamentary organizations, safeguard common benefits, and create a conducive environment for the development of the two countries, Wu said. He called on the parliamentary bodies to approve bilateral cooperation deals on oil and natural gas on time.     He also urged the implementation of already-signed cooperation agreements, and for support to help Chinese and Russian enterprises find new opportunities for cooperation within each other's economic stimulus plans.     The NPC and the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, should also be actively engaged in activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and to broadly share the idea of friendship between the two nations, Wu said.     Gryzlov said parliamentary cooperation between Russia and China has served a significant and unique role in the fast development of bilateral ties.     Especially since the two parliaments established a regular exchange mechanism, more and more Duma legislators have been involved in promoting friendship between the two countries, he said.     The State Duma hopes to further strengthen its ties with the NPC, and to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as politics, economy, culture, environment, anti-terrorism and anti-drug smuggling, Gryzlov said.     Wu is in Moscow for an official visit to Russia. Since arriving in Moscow on Wednesday, the legislator has met with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Sergei Mironov, chairman of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament, known as the Federation Council.

SHENZHEN, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chen Yunlin, president of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) said Saturday that the ARATS will offer more support to help Taiwan businessmen weather through the financial crisis.     Chen said this at a symposium here Saturday on the development of Taiwan companies amid the financial crisis.     According to the Taipei World Trade Center, the second purchase delegation from the mainland had shown intention to purchase more than 600 million U.S. dollars worth of goods from Taiwan companies in the coming 12 months during a weeklong visit to the island, mainly involving food, drinks, garments and daily necessities.     "Under the current circumstances, we should positively seek more cooperation opportunities to overcome the hardships," said Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF).     The mainland will send the third procurement delegation to the island in August, focusing on the island's chemical industry, electronic products and automobiles.     More than 50 representatives from the mainland-based Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises, the Taiwan-based "Chinese National Federation of Industries" and other organizations attended the symposium, which was jointly held by the ARATS and the SEF.

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao left Beijing Sunday for the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the first meeting of BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) leaders in Russia's Ural city of Yekaterinburg.     He will then pay a state visit Russia followed by state visits to Slovakia and Croatia from June 18 to June 20.     Hu's visits to the three nations are at the invitation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic and Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.     Hu's delegation includes Ling Jihua, member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Wang Huning, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee; State Councilor Dai Bingguo; Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi; minister of the National Development and Reform Commission Zhang Ping; Minister of Commerce Chen Deming; Minister of Culture Cai Wu; Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui; Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei and Director of the President's Office Chen Shiju.

  

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stressed the importance of promoting domestic consumption and independent research and development during a three-day inspection tour of the central Hunan Province, which ended Sunday.     Wen said the key to a sound economic future lay in continuing to "unswervingly" implement the government's policies to deal with the international economic downturn.     Companies should increase investment in research and development and better utilize science and technologies to "foster new economic growth points," he said.     Local governments, meanwhile, should develop energy-efficient and environment-friendly industries and put priority on a recycling and green economy, he said. HELSINKI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday outlined guidelines for boosting Sino-Finnish relations in political, economic and social fields.     Politically, top leaders and senior officials of China and Finland should continue to frequently visit each other to improve the mechanism for bilateral cooperation, said Li while meeting with Finnish President Tarja Halonen. Economically, the two countries should make good use of their respective competitive advantages which compliment each other to deepen their pragmatic cooperation in business, environment, energy and other fields, he said.     Socially, China and Finland should promote exchanges in culture, education, health, tourism and other fields to build a stronger social base for their bilateral relations, he added. Finnish President Tarja Halonen (R Front) meets with Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang (L Front) in Helsinki, June 25, 2009    Li also called for enhanced communications and consultations between the two countries in international affairs.     On China-EU relations, Li said that China has always been committed to developing a comprehensive strategic partnership with EU and Sino-EU relationship was of strategic importance in China's foreign policy.     Both China and EU should cherish the hard-earned good relationship between the two sides, make dialogue and cooperation as its cornerstone, base it on mutual respect and equality, and maintain the principle of seeking common ground while reserving differences.     Li said China appreciates the efforts Finland has made to promote the healthy development in China-EU relations and hopes Finland will continue to play a constructive role in enhancing the political mutual trust between China and EU and pushing for closer China-EU cooperation.     For her part, Halonen said that both Finland and China value their relationship, adding that communication and cooperation in political, economic, cultural, educational and social fields have been going on smoothly, which has a positive impact on bilateral relations.     Finland has attached great importance to its relations with China and is willing to be a positive force in shaping EU-China relationship, she told Li.     She also said that the Finnish government and companies would actively participate in the 2010 World Expo to be held in Shanghai, China.     The Finnish president extended an invitation through Li to her Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao for visiting Finland when the Chinese top leader feels convenient.     Li arrived in Helsinki on Thursday for a three-day official visit to the northern European nation.
