POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A local business and organization are coming together to take steps toward better protecting Alzheimer patients by providing free gun locks.Alzheimer’s San Diego and Poway Weapons and Gear have started the first of its kind program regarding what to do when it’s time to lock up your guns.Eugenia Welch is the President of Alzheimer’s San Diego and spoke to 10News. "As we were working further through this program, there was an incident locally, a gentleman shot his daughter because he didn’t recognize her as a daughter he thought she was an intruder. Luckily she’s fine but that could have been a really bad situation," she said. When families are helping their loved ones who have been diagnosed, they often forget about the guns in the home and how dangerous they could be. "If someone is retired military or retired police officer, they’ve probably had guns in their home their whole life and didn’t even think about it” Welch says.This program gives free gun locks to families. It started over the summer and so far they have given out 100 locks.Poway Weapons and Gear has donated 500 locks and tells 10News they will continue to donate as need grows.The program hits close to home for the business because the owner’s grandmother was also diagnosed with the disease.With the locks on guns they become completely unusable, preventing the cylinder from going back in with the rounds to allow the gun to be fired.While the ideal situation is for the guns to be completely removed, the organization says this is the next best option. 1610

President Donald Trump has discussed the possibility of granting pre-emptive pardons to his three oldest children, top adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, according to reports from the New York Times, ABC News and NBC News.The New York Times first reported the possibility that Trump could issue the pre-emptive pardons out of fear of politically-motivated investigations from the incoming Biden administration.None of those Trump is considering for a pardon have been formally charged with a crime, though all have been tangentially linked to various criminal investigations over the last four years.Donald Trump Jr. — the president's oldest son — was investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller for a meeting he took with Russian officials during his work with the Trump campaign ahead of the 2016 election.Kushner, the president's son-in-law, did not disclose contacts with some foreigners in applying for White House security clearance. Though it is a crime to provide incomplete information to federal investigators, President Trump granted Kushner unilateral security clearance.Eric Trump is currently serving as the executive vice president of development and acquisitions of the Trump Organization — which is currently under investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. In particular, James is investigating millions in tax write-offs for organization "consulting fees." The New York Times has reported that some of those funds went to Ivanka Trump, the president's oldest daughter.It's unclear how the president would issue a pre-emptive pardon for charges that have not been levied. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said on Twitter he received a message from Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding this week's covert visit by North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to Beijing.Trump said Xi told him that his meeting with Kim went "very well" and that "KIM Looks forward to his meeting with me." (KGTV) — A Poway woman is taking legal action against the city after she says she fell ill from drinking contaminated water.The city on Nov. 30 issued a precautionary boil advisory after residents reported brownish water coming from their faucets. Poway officials reported that a storm drain backed up into a clear well, and said they issued the boil advisory in an abundance of caution. The advisory lasted about a week and was lifted Dec. 6. "Personally I felt ill after drinking the water, and my son, I had to take him to urgent care" Serino said. "So just in my own family, because we are Poway residents, I have two small children, it's affecting us as well and other people that we work with."
