BEIJING, June 12 (Xinhua) -- China's joint prevention and control tactic has been proved to be powerful, orderly and effective in fighting the spreading of A/H1N1 virus, said Vice-Premier Li Keqiang while he presided over a conference on the issue Friday.     The tactic has helped the nation win time and initiative in the efforts to deal with the epidemic, which has protected the people's health rights, reduced its impacts on economy and society in a maximal way, and provided favorable conditions for the country's development, said the official, who is also member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau. Li conveyed the instructions of Hu Jintao, state president and general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and Premier Wen Jiabao on the issue. He said the situation of the epidemic has been under control in the country. The patients found in China have mostly come from abroad and the majority of them are minor cases that have been cured in a relatively short time, he noted.     While the epidemic situation is developing outside of the country and the WHO has raised its flu alert to the highest level, the number of imported flu cases has increased relatively quickly over the past few days, according to the official.     China will try to minimize the number of locally transmitted cases, prevent the spreading of the virus in communities, increase the abilities of handling seriously ill patients, and speed up the pace of studying and producing the vaccine, in order to prepare for future changes of the epidemic, Li said.     Ma Kai, state councilor and secretary general of the State Council, attended the meeting.

FLORENCE, Italy, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that China highly values its relations with Italy and is willing to broaden consensus and deepen pragmatic cooperation with the country in various fields. Bilateral relations have developed smoothly since China and Italy established diplomatic relations 39 years ago, Hu said at a meeting with senior Italian officials, including Culture Minister Sandro Bondi and Toscana Region's President Claudio Martini.     He added that the two countries have further deepened their cooperation in politics, economy, culture and other fields especially since they set up an all-around strategic partnership in 2004. VIENNA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and Austrian Acting Chancellor Josef Proll met here on Saturday, with both sides agreeing to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the fight against the ongoing world financial crisis.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said China's development has provided even greater room for expanding economic and technological cooperation with Austria. In the process of addressing the consequences of the financial crisis, the Austrian government places great importance on strengthening economic and technological relations with China.     China witnessed an economic growth of 6.1 percent in the first quarter of this year, while Austria's economy contracted 2.8 percent in the same period.     Noting that the two economies are highly complementary, Wu said China has a huge market and Austria has advanced technologies in many fields. He said China is ready to expand cooperation with Austria in such areas as energy efficiency, environment protection, water conservancy, eco-agriculture, auto parts and clean energy, so as to foster new growth spots of both economies.     Proll said Austria will actively transfer advanced technology to China in a bid to expand cooperative areas and carry out large-scale projects. BEIJING, April 22 (Xinhua) -- China and Pakistan Wednesday praised the ties between their parliaments and both agreed to raise inter-parliamentary cooperation to a higher level.     In his meeting with visiting Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly Fahmida Mirza, Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo noted that China always conducted its ties with Pakistan taking a strategic, long-term perspective and was committed to pushing forward bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature, highlighted the growth of bilateral relations and expressed appreciation for Pakistan's support for China on issues relating to Taiwan and Tibet. She also urged both countries to develop exchanges among female members of their legislatures.     She also reiterated firm support for China's principle and position on issues relating to Taiwan and Tibet.     Mirza's visit to China from April 21 to 27, her first, was made at the invitation of Wu. She will also visit the western city of Xi'an and the economic powerhouse of Shanghai.
