ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- A homeless man used what little he has to give a selfless gift during a toy drive at a Colorado Walmart.Glen McCarthy walked to Walmart and got a cup of coffee. He was touched by the toy drive that was going on. He ended up buying a Barbie and a Hot Wheels set, but he couldn't stop thinking about a bike he saw."And I looked at that bike, and the bike was marked , but the tag underneath it said ," said McCarthy.It's not a lot of money for some, but for McCarthy, it was nearly everything. He went back to the hotel where he was staying and paid for another night. Back at the hotel, he still couldn't stop thinking about the bike.He walked back to Walmart and asked about the bike since the tag listed two different prices. Once a clerk realized what he was doing, she told him that he could have the bike for ."Another big reason I got to thinking, this is probably going to be my last Christmas. I'm no one, make some little kid happy," said McCarthy.McCarthy has always loved Christmas, and he realizes his time is running out. Doctors recently told him that his cancer is terminal, he has less than a year to live. "It took my losing everything to realize that I'm happier now struggling for everything in my life than I had when I had big money," said McCarthy.Despite being sick and homeless, he continues to volunteer at Senior Support Services in Denver. Staff at the center weren't surprised to hear what McCarthy did at Walmart."Totally sounded like Glen, yeah totally. So it's just amazing, he just has a real caring heart and willing to help people," said Julie Romero, Day Center Manager at Senior Support Services.In this season of giving, McCarthy knows it's about the joy that comes with making someone's day a little brighter. (KGTV) -- A popular Encinitas cafe was destroyed and nearby residences were evacuated following a blaze early Monday morning.Crews were called around 12:15 a.m. to a commercial building fire at 698 N Coast Highway 101, about three blocks from the coastline.Witnesses reported hearing an explosion then seeing the building fully engulfed almost instantly. "I heard a really loud pop and then I heard some yelling," said Matt Prior, a nearby resident. He thought the noise was gunfire until he realized the popular Mozy Cafe was engulfed in flames."I went outside and saw like a really big orange glow," said Prior.Flames were still raging an hour after the first units arrived. More firefighting units were called to the scene and crews evacuated nearby residential buildings.No injuries were reported.In total, Mozy Cafe and three other businesses resided in the destroyed commercial building. Firefighters remained on the scene as of 6 a.m. to monitor hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials say it does not seem suspicious.The owners of the four businesses say they want to rebuild and have created a GoFundMe to raise money. 1185

(KGTV) - The bluffs that collapsed in North San Diego County Friday, killing three people, are a known trouble spot to a local geologist.Former San Diego State University professor Dr. Pat Abbott has led several geology field trips to Grandview Beach to point out unstable cliffs. Abbott described the cliff as a “solid mass of sand grains cemented together” that suddenly gave way on a sunny and warm afternoon. Waves erode the shoreline in addition to groundwater that seeps into the bluffs, leaving behind white streaks of salt and creating cracks, Abbott said. (KGTV) — A police pursuit that started in the South Bay ended in North County Tuesday, with the occupants in a standoff with police.The chase began just after 1 p.m. in National City in the 2300 block of E. 8th St. with a report of a suicidal woman in a vehicle, according to National City Police. Officers arrived to find the car leaving the area with a passenger in the back seat of a Nissan sedan.Officers tried to pull the female driver over, but she refused to stop. She continued onto northbound Interstate 805 and then northbound I-15 in the carpool lanes, police said.Sky10 was live over the standoff this afternoon:CHP officers deployed a spike strip in Rancho Bernardo, which the driver hit while traveling about 70 miles per hour. After losing one tire, she slowed to about 10 mph and continued into Escondido, eventually stopping in a parking lot in the 700 block of E. Valley Parkway.Officers surrounded her vehicle but she refused communicate with police. Officers at the scene said she was seen taking pills in the vehicle and stabbing herself.The passenger exited the car shortly after 2 p.m. Soon after, the driver exited carrying a dog. The driver then handed the dog over to police and was taken into custody, ending the 10-minute standoff.She was transported to a nearby hospital. Police have not said what charges, if any, she faces.
