BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader on Thursday called for educating the public about the Party's agenda for China's development in the next five years.Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing where officials made arrangements for cultural and ideological work in 2011.In a plenary session last October, the CPC Central Committee set the agenda for China's 12th five-year development program (2011-2015), with key objectives in economic restructuring and raising living standards throughout the country.Efforts must be made to educate the public on the agenda set at the plenary session in order to encourage the public to make a greater contribution to the development program, he said.
BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan met in Beijing Wednesday with a delegation of the Peruvian political party Fuerza 2011, led by Ex-President Alberto Fujimori's daughter Keiko Fujimori.Liu spoke positively of the development of Sino-Peruvian ties in recent years, noting that the establishment of the bilateral strategic partnership in 2008 signalled bilateral relations had entered a new phase.Liu, who is a member of the political bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also chief of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the CPC was willing to develop friendly relations and cooperation with Fuerza 2011 on the basis of independence, equality, mutual respect and the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs. BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's urban fixed asset investment rose 24.9 percent in the first 11 months year on year to hit 21.07 trillion yuan (3.19 trillion U.S. dollars), China's statistics authority said Saturday.The growth rate was 0.5 percentage points higher than that during the first ten months, according to figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).The urban investment in the primary, secondary and tertiary industries rose by 16.6 percent, 22.7 percent and 26.9 percent respectively.During the first 11 months, investment in central government projects rose 10.2 percent year on year to 1.68 trillion yuan, while investment in local government projects was up 26.4 percent to reach 19.39 trillion yuan, according to the NBS figures.Property development investment was up 36.5 percent year on year to reach 4.27 trillion yuan, the figures showed.During the same period, state-owned and state-controlled investment reached 8.75 trillion yuan, up 19 percent from a year earlier.Investment in railway constructions and transportation jumped 25.3 percent to 582.2 billion yuan, while investment in petroleum and gas exploration climbed 5.8 percent to 219.4 billion yuan for the first 11 months.
ISLAMABAD, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Acting President and Senate Chairman Farooq Hamid Naek and National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza visited the newly-launched Pakistan-China Friendship Center in Islamabad on Thursday.Naek and Mirza, with the company of Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian, visited the friendship hall, conference rooms and other facilities in the center.They also toured a photography exhibition highlighting the history of the bilateral ties and an exhibition of masterpieces of the Chinese brush painting.In a message left on a guestbook, Naek viewed the friendship center as a symbol of the close friendly brotherly ties between the two countries. BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's efforts to deal with lawsuit-related public petitions have seen positive results with 616 such cases being resolved as of the end of October, figures from the Ministry of Justice show.Since March, when a campaign to manage cases of public petitions and complaints began, judicial and administrative departments across the country have dealt with 6,501 lawsuit-related petition cases."In order to avoid lawsuit-related public petitions from the root, prisons and detention centers across the country have launched training programs for prison police to promote their management and law enforcement capacities," Vice Minister Hao Chiyong said Wednesday at a meeting.In China, many public petitions and complaints involved mistreatment of prisoners in detention centers as police sought confessions by allegedly torturing detainees."Through these efforts, the number of lawsuit-related petition cases have dropped significantly," Hao said.In addition to police training, local governments were told to carefully consider and check corruption-prone cases and those strongly felt by the public, and deal with these cases in accordance with laws and regulations.According to Hao, the ministry is planning to let mediation play a larger role in solving public conflicts and complaints by organizing legal workers to provide legal aid and guide people to express their demands in a reasonable manner.Figures released this September by the State Council Information Office show that, in 2009, the number of letters from, and visits of people for petitioning, dropped by 2.7 percent over the previous year, a decrease for the fifth consecutive year.
