SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego family just got bigger thanks to results from a recently taken DNA test.Sita Brooke and her brother, Odie, met their sister Eva Knight for the first time Friday. Brooke's father, Jim, was also on hand to meet his daughter.Brooke told 10News she purchased a DNA kit from Ancestry.com for her parents last Christmas to learn more about her family's origins. Knight, from Arizona, had also taken a DNA test recently.A parental match popped up for both of them.Brooke's dad served for 33 years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Trinidad at one point, where he met Knight's mother. And the sister's have even more in common. Knight is also originally from San Diego before moving to Arizona.The family members are now enjoying their newly discovered connections. 800

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new study found that living in San Diego's suburbs could cost more than living in the city.The study, by Zillow and Care.com looked at the costs of mortgages, property taxes and child care to see which are of town is less expensive. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan that has the potential to triple Mission Valley's population by 2050 will be voted on by the San Diego City Council Tuesday.The city will vote on the final draft of the proposed Mission Valley Community Plan. It replaces the last plan that was written back in 1985. Supporters say it will help address the region's housing crisis. "One of the biggest problems we've had in the city is our community plans haven't been updated in decades. So, whenever developers come in and want to build housing they have to get conditional use permits and that takes sometimes over years to get accomplished, and that drives the cost of housing up," said councilman Scott Sherman whose district includes Mission Valley.Currently, Mission Valley is zoned mixed-use and residential. The new plan would rezone it to almost all mixed-use. Developers would be able to build up to 145 housing units per acre, instead of 73 units per acre. "Apartments and condos, density around mass transit, that's the whole idea, we need housing so let's make it more dense around transit oriented hubs, cause we have the trolley that runs right through Mission Valley," said Sherman. People who work in Mission Valley are worried that traffic will be a nightmare in an area already known for gridlock. "It's already congested as it is, so to build more, where?" asked Eni O'Donnell. "It depends on how well they plan integrating it all in, if you bring in 50,000 people overnight, then obviously, that's not going to work," said Archie Kordestani who lives in Civita. The plan includes several new bike and pedestrian bridges, connectors to help with traffic, and more transit stops along the trolley's green line. "Busing, biking, trolleys, I think these are the ways to go," said Kordestani.The project also includes 160 acres of park space and two schools. If it gets final approval, builders can start applying for permits in the next few months."If you make the rules in place and make it easier for people to build, they'll come in and build and the price should go down, cause right now our housing crisis is really a supply issue," said Sherman. 2155

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local contractor is facing criminal charges for allegedly taking customers money and doing little to no work.On Monday Stephen Hage Jr. plead not guilty to charges ranging from grand theft to improper home improvement contract procedures.According to the prosecutor Hage allegedly took down payments on home improvement contracts, and after getting the money disappeared after performing little to no work.In November, a Team 10 investigation discovered some customers who said they signed a contract with American Pride Enterprises, paid thousands of dollars up front and were left with little or nothing. James Francois said he paid Hage more than ,000 for a patio.“He never showed up, never delivered any material, never did an hour of work,” Francois told 10News in November.The Contractors State License Board revoked American Pride Enterprises' license for non-compliance with an arbitration award in July of 2018.After the hearing Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin asked Hage if he had a comment about the allegations. Hage’s attorney said they had no comment. Hage is scheduled to be back in court in May. 1144
