(KGTV) - A pride flag is now flying outside Encinitas City Hall, overlooking the city's downtown area.The Encinitas City Council voted 4-0 Wednesday to hoist the flag to commemorate Pride month. The action comes after the Trump administration denied U.S. Embassy requests to hoist the flag, saying government buidlings should only fly the American flag. At the meeting Wednesday, councilmembers said they wanted to show the city as inclusive and welcoming. They added they want to push back against a recent uptick in hate crimes against the LGBTQ commumity - and potential rollbacks of federal protections for them in the military, workplace, and health care."I think it's critically important that we stand up and celebrate," said Joe Mosca, the city council's first openly gay member. "We celebrate the advancements that have been made and we're ready to fight for the future, and make sure that advancements that have been made haven't been rolled back."Lisa Nava, a 30-year Encinitas resident and LGBTQ advocate, watched the Pride flag go up in memory of her brother David, who died of AIDS in the 1980s."It was actually the first time i ever saw true love, between him and his partner, and I believed in my core being that there was no reason two people couldn't love each other and be out in the world loving each other," she said. The city's move comes after California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the Pride flag to fly above the state capitol this week. Tony Krvaric, who heads the Republican Party of San Diego County, said there are bigger issues in the country than which flags to fly."That said it seems common sense that as a general rule government buildings should just fly the American flag and not be used for making political points one way or the other," Krvaric said. ESTERO, Fla. — A Florida man saved his dog from certain death after he wrestled an alligator that snatched the puppy and dragged the pooch into a pond."He just came out like a missile," 74-year-old Richard Wilbanks of Estero said of the gator that attacked Gunner, his cavalier King Charles spaniel.Wilbanks jumped into the water, pried open the gator's mouth and freed Gunner from the gator's jaws.The rescue was caught on camera by the Florida Wildlife Federation.Wilbanks told CNN that his hands were "just chewed up," but Gunner is doing OK."We live on a shared landscape," Florida Wildlife Federation spokeswoman Meredith Budd told WINK-TV in Fort Myers. ENSENADA, Mexico (KGTV) - The family of a man injured in an ATV accident in Mexico is seeking donations to help get him to a hospital in San Diego.Chad Carrico, who works for a pest control company in Seattle, was on a cruise from Seattle to Mexico when he got off for a day in Ensenada in Baja California on October 10. He and a few friends rented ATV’s but his mother, Theresa Carrico, said he hit something and lost control.“He flew over the handles and the ATV rolled on top of him and crushed him,” said Carrico.His liver was severely damaged. He also suffered a punctured lung and had internal bleeding. He underwent surgery at Velmar Hospital and was placed on life support. He also has to undergo daily kidney dialysis.His mother said, he does not have health insurance in the United States but his employer paid the first ,000 payment.On Monday, she said the hospital told them they owe another ,000.Making matters more pressing, on Monday night they learned he was going into septic shock and may also have contracted a dangerous fungus on his nose that could spread to his brain. Treatment for the fungus, they said, was not available at the hospital.The family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to accept donations. 1243

European scientists say they have caught a rare fish they describe as a "living fossil."According to the BBC, scientists for the European Union's Institute for Sea and Atmosphere captured a 5-foot long frilled shark in the waters off the coast of southern Portugal.Frilled sharks are rarely seen by humans, and typically live thousands of feet below the ocean's surface. This particular shark was caught at a depth of 2,300 feet.According to Fox News, there have only been three recorded sightings of frilled sharks in the past 10 years. The fish was spotted twice near the coast of Japan in 2007 and 2017, and in Australia in 2014.  671

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Suspects reportedly forced employees onto the ground and into a vault during a robbery at a credit union in Escondido, according to the FBI. Police were called to the San Diego County Credit Union on the 1800 block of South Center City Parkway just before 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a robbery. After arriving on scene, police confirmed that a takeover-style robbery had occurred. According to the FBI, four men entered the credit union completely covered and armed with weapons. The suspects ordered employees to the ground and forced an employee to go into the vault to retrieve money. After grabbing the cash, the suspects fled the credit union in a late 80 or early 90s suburban, the FBI says. 741
