OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Oceanside is home to the oldest cafe on the historic Highway 101. Appropriately named Cafe 101, when you step inside, you take a step back in time inside a 50s-style diner filled with memories and history. Café 101 has been an Oceanside fixture since 1928 for one reason. "Location, location, location," says John Daley sitting at the counter. Daley should know for several reasons. He's a developer, a third-generation Oceanside native, and former owner of Cafe 101 and much of its rich history."At one time, this was even our local bus stop for Greyhound out in front of us," adds Daley. When Camp Pendleton opened during World War II, Oceanside exploded from 5,000 people to more than 12,000. Cafe 101 was not only a drive-in diner, but it also served as a trailer park. "So those people had to have some place to live, they have to have some place to eat, and some place to recreate,” explains Daley. “So, it was just a crazy time in Oceanside history."For those Marines, Cafe 101 was like a second home and the employees who worked there were like family. Years later, when Daley and his partners bought the restaurant in the mid-80s he would see those Marines, much older now with children and grandchildren, return to the cafe to relive memories."Me being a big talker, I love to go out and say high to as many as I could recognize, and thank them for their service, and tell their kids what a great job they did to make our country free," says Daley with a smile. Cafe 101 is pure nostalgia. From home cooked food to the stainless-steel tables, the red booths, and the table side jukeboxes. But what sets Cafe 101 apart is its symbolic mural on the south wall of the cafe. It’s been featured in magazines and newspapers all over the world. That mural is what makes Cafe 101 such an essential part of Oceanside. "It was kind of iconic in a sense," says Daley. "Which is really a 101-highway mural too. (KGTV) — There are more complaints against an Oceanside investment company and the man in charge of that business.Team 10 has spoken to several investors who said they gave thousands of dollars to the Pacific Teak Reforestation Project, managed and developed by Pacific Management Group. Ron Fleming is listed as the founder and chairman of the board on the company’s website.The website states the Pacific Teak reforestation project “provides individuals, businesses, and institutions around the world the opportunity to build their financial future, while saving one of the earth’s most precious and scarce natural habitats: the tropical rainforest.”RELATED: Investors say they lost thousands with Oceanside investment companyAccording to the company’s sales plan, investors paid for teak trees in Costa Rica, which would eventually be harvested and sold for timber.A certified letter shown to Team 10 listed 18 investors that demanded Fleming return their money for a project they said did not deliver. That letter was delivered to Fleming’s Oceanside home this summer.“No one’s ever seen a dime,” said investor Michael Tillman, a Navy veteran who lives in Maryland."He befriended you first," added Greg Robertson, who currently lives in Rome, Italy. “[Fleming] got your confidence, your trust. Everything. Then he betrayed you.”Mark Baker, who lives in Arizona, said he grew up with Fleming. He said he invested more than 0,000 with Pacific Teak. He has yet to see any of his money. “I’ve had to come up with a plan B for retirement,” Baker said.Another investor, Virginia Hitchcock, met Fleming in 2004. “The way that he positioned it was that the investors would pay for the trees and the land would eventually be rededicated to the rain forest,” says Hitchcock.She invested close to 0,000 in this green project. According to the contract, trees were ready for harvest “at the end of the 15th year.” Hitchcock said she heard nothing when that time came.“I had faith that he would ... not cheat us out of the money that we invested,” Hitchcock said.Fleming told Team 10 he retired in 2013 due to health reasons. He said Hurricane Otto in 2016 caused “catastrophic damage” to the project. However, multiple investors said Fleming never informed them about his retirement or any hurricane damage until after they pressed him for answers.Hitchcock, now in her 60s, did not know what to do.“I just, I thought if I called the FBI, they would just laugh at me because I had done something so stupid, and gullible, and trusting,” Hitchcock said.Other investors did report Fleming and Pacific Teak to the FBI, although the agency could not confirm any investigation.There was an investigation by the state through the Department of Business Oversight, now called the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. The state issued a desist and refrain order in 2016 against Fleming and his company. It also found Pacific Management Group did not have a proper permit to operate and said the company “never gave investors the profits promised” listed in their agreements.A spokesperson with the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation could not comment on any investigation related to Pacific Teak. However, he said desist and refrain orders are like probation and, “any discovery of further violation would result in an additional response.” That response could include fines, penalties, or criminal referrals.The spokesperson added that they strongly encourage anyone with concerns about Pacific Teak to file a complaint with their department.Fleming would not agree to an on-camera interview with Team 10. His attorney said Fleming did not do anything unethical in relationship to Pacific Management Group. In an email, attorney Dominic Amorosa added: “I am not sure whether you can find any investor in the United States who believes that an investment must necessarily be successful notwithstanding any foreseeable or unforeseeable events.” 3987

One day after Vermont lawmakers approved sweeping gun control measures that include limits on the size of magazines, gun-rights supporters held a large protest outside the state Capitol in Montpelier.And to boost enthusiasm, they handed out gifts: Hundreds of free rifle magazines, each capable of holding 30 rounds of ammunition.The stunt on Saturday was a direct jab at the new legislation, which Vermont Gov. Phil Scott has said he will sign. The amendment to the present law raises the purchase age of guns to 21; bans bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly; and limits rifle magazines to 10 rounds.But Vermont residents will be permitted to keep larger-capacity magazines they already own, creating a sense of urgency among state gun owners looking to stock up before the bill becomes law."My fear is that legislators will pass knee-jerk legislation without any depth, any meaning, and it's really not going to make Vermont any safer," Rob Curtis, one of the rally's organizers, told CNN affiliate WCAX. (KGTV) - Trains passing through southern Orange County were delayed Monday night causing headaches for thousands of travelers.According to Amtrak, a train became stalled on the track between Oceanside and San Clemente “due to mechanical issues.”The Metrolink Twitter account said train 609 that was disabled.The Pacific Surfliner Twitter account said train 583 was also having mechanical issues. The delays resulted in the cancellation of train 590.Metrolink wrote on Twitter that they canceled OC Line 603 to LA Union Station Tuesday morning because of the issues with train 609.Metrolink offered busses from Laguna Niguel down to Oceanside, but one traveler who was stranded at the San Juan Capistrano station told 10News that Amtrak did not offer any busses to complete the trip.
