Thursday marks Pi Day, otherwise known as 3.14, which marks the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. While the average citizen can easily remember the 3.14 ratio, the exact ratio practically has an infinite amount of numbers. If you want a more precise pi ratio, it is 3.141592653589793238462643383279. How well do you think you could remember just those 30 digits? One man was able to remember the ratio of pi up to 70,000 decimal places. Rajveer Meena accomplished the feat on March 21, 2015 while wearing a blindfold. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Meena's feat took nearly 10 hours to accomplish. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, there are now more than 22 trillion know digits to pi. According to Five-Thirty-Eight, it took a Dell computer nearly 105 days of computation to come up with the large number of digits. This is compared to just 2,000 known digits of pi in the mid-20th century. So how does one remember so many digits? Savant Daniel Tammet, who is able to remember pi's calculation to more than 20,000 digits, told David Letterman, "What I am doing is visualizing numbers." he said. "When you look at a number, you just see the numbers four and three. When I am looking at numbers, I am seeing different colors and shapes and textures. It is called 'synesthesia.' My brain is working in such a way I am looking and also experiencing color. It is two senses combined. "Having a more exact number of pi helps scientists at NASA conduct more precise experiments and calculations. Having more exact figures helps lend precision to projects such as landing rovers on Mars, sending spacecraft into deep space or tracking the movement of asteroids. The United States Department of Agriculture says grocery store prices will rise 1 to 2 percent this year. However, there are ways to still save. For starters, begin with the meat. "We have to pay close attention to those sale prices specifically," says Erin Chase, who is known as the Dollar Dinner Mom. Chase says to pay attention to the store’s sale cycles. "Start following the sales and the sale cycles, and you will start to notice, hey about every six weeks, chicken breast is on sale at my grocery store,” she says. “And maybe every eight to 10 weeks, ground beef is on sale at my grocery store." Chase recommends buying only meat for or less per pound. When it comes to seafood, it's rarely found in a circular, so ask your grocery store when it goes on sale. "Because it's reduced for a quick sale, you need to do something with it fairly quickly,” Chase says. Besides saving big on protein, Chase says items in the center isles can be a great place to save. "Those items are usually the most couponable," she says. Chase says some of her favorite things to save on include toiletries and cleaning supplies. "If you can start saving on household things, cleaning supplies, medications--it’s cold and flu season right now--go stock up,” Chase says. "Because eventually, someone will need Tylenol or Advil." Couponing and going through the circular of sales can be time consuming, but Chase says to think long-term with your money. "If I can put in 5, 10 20, 30 minutes now, and I can save myself , , a week, multiply that by 52 and all of a sudden you're like, ‘Oh, that's worth spending 15-20 minutes looking at the ads.’" An easy place to start when it comes to looking for savings is to only look for sales on items you normally buy. 1781

The pictures are horrific, and the stories behind the devastating crashes are heartbreaking. In one accident, 17-year-old Annaleah and 13-year-old Mary died in the backseat of their car, after a truck hit them and pushed the car underneath a tractor-trailer. Their mother, Marianne Karth, is haunted by it. “It's a very devastating crash. It's like the most devasting you can have,” Karth says. Lois Durso also lost her 26-old-daughter, Roya, in one of these same types of crashes.“Her hair was on the tires of the trailer, so we know it crushed her,” Durso recalls. Eric Hein experienced a similar tragedy. His 16-year-old son, Riley, died on his way to marching band practice after getting trapped underneath a tractor-trailer truck.“He went underneath the trailer,” Hein recalls. “His car got dragged for half a mile until it was engulfed in flames, and the fire killed him.” Tragedy brought all three parents together. Now, perseverance pushes them forward as they take steps to prevent these types of crashes. Karth and Durso organized a crash test in Washington, D.C. just weeks after members of Congress reintroduced the Stop Underrides Act, which would update and strengthen safety laws, including requiring tractor trailers to have guards on the sides to help prevent cars from ending up underneath them.“Seeing is believing, and for them to witness with their own eyes and own ears and to have it be something they see,” Karth says of their crash test. “Crash into the side of the trailer with a side guard and without to see the life and death difference.” Past legislation has stalled, but the parents hope this dramatic demonstration will be enough to get Congress to take action. Tests have shown when installed properly, guards can make a difference and keep cars from sliding underneath trailers. “It's not the crash that kills, it's the underride,” explains Durso. “If you can prevent the underride, there's a chance the vehicle occupants will survive.” Groups representing the trucking industry have concerns about the cost and say the guards add extra weight and can impact how tractor trailers can maneuver. However, parents say those concerns will not slow down their effort and they remain driven to save lives. “I lost my son. I don't want somebody else to go through this tragedy. These are preventable deaths,” says Hein. 2357

Three American tourists, including a married couple, drowned in Turks and Caicos, the group of islands southeast of the Bahamas, authorities and local reports said. Two girls survived what authorities called a "very human and terrible tragedy" in the waters off scenic Bambarra Beach in Middle Caicos on Monday. One of the children was the daughter of the couple who drowned, authorities said, while the other girl was related to the third victim."We are saddened whenever incidents of this nature occur," Ralph Higgs, the Minister of Tourism, said in a written statement.Authorities said the two families went to the beach and encountered a fast-moving tide. Many in the community pitched in to help the extensive search on land and water."We came together as a community and we tried our best," Frederico Johnson, a district commissioner in Middle Caicos, told local station PTV8 News Watch.Johnson, who set out on foot and helped search the beach, said that after two bodies were found Monday, he was scanning for any sign of a person. "Right when I was about to leave, I saw this shape in the water" on Tuesday, he told PTV8.Police Commissioner Trevor Botting praised Johnson for his efforts, saying, "Your acts of leadership speak volumes."Authorities have not released the identities of the victims pending notification of kin.CNN confirmed with a relative of one of the victims that the three were Americans visiting the island. The relative had posted on Facebook that her "heart was BROKEN!!!" She told CNN the family was grieving and did not want to comment. 1578
