SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Monday a motion to reduce thousands of marijuana convictions.The motion asks the San Diego Superior Court to reduce 25,000 marijuana convictions, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors, and dismiss another 1,000 misdemeanor convictions completely.“We’ve been a leader in the state and pro-active on giving individuals with marijuana convictions the opportunity to move forward with their lives without a conviction that may have been negatively impacting their lives by restricting their employment or housing,” said Stephan. “This latest motion is the continuation of work that began more than two years ago. But according to the DA's office, officials have actively been reducing or dismissing eligible marijuana cases under 2016's Proposition 64, which legalized recreational cannabis. Since 2016, the DA's office says it has reduced or dismissed more than 1,600 marijuana-related convictions.Under Prop 64, sections regarding cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale of marijuana, and sales and/or transporting marijuana — all felonies — qualify for resentencing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer Monday announced new limitations on public gatherings, as well as bar closures and restaurant restrictions. In the announcement, Faulconer echoed an declaration made earlier in the day by county health and elected officials. During that news conference, county officials announced that they would legally enforce new public health orders over COVID-19. Faulconer said he signed an executive order forcing all bars and nightclubs to close to the public. "This is not optional, this is mandatory," Faulconer said. During the news conference, Faulconer discouraged residents from attending any non-essential gatherings. The order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Monday and will last through March 31, unless otherwise extended. The city is set to maintain police, fire, water, trash and sewage services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police made six DUI arrests during a downtown checkpoint Saturday night. The checkpoint was conducted on the 1400 block of G Street between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday. In total, 1,765 vehicles drove through the checkpoint and 526 were screened. Six drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, two drivers were cited or arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Two citations were also issued for unspecified reasons at the checkpoint. “The San Diego Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint or DUI saturation patrol on March 15, 2020, in our ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways,” police said in a news release. 792

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council leaders Tuesday voted to approve a plan to fund three temporary housing shelters for the city's homeless.Council leaders voted 8-1 to approve the plan.
