The only volunteer fire department in Hamilton, a small community in Monroe County, Mississippi, was destroyed in this weekend's devastating tornadoes.The tornado hit Monroe County on Saturday night, said CNN meteorologist Gene Norman. It was one of about six tornadoes to hit the state this weekend. One person in Monroe was killed and 10 people were injured.This weekend's massive storm system ravaged areas from Texas to Mississippi. "The fire station (is) gone."No firefighters were killed or injured, Tucker said.Tucker said the Hamilton department was the only one in the immediate area of the small community of about 1,500 people. The other nearest station is 14 miles away, Tucker said."It's hard to fathom, the fire department is gone," he said. "The people will have a long recovery. The fire department basically has to start over. The dreaded parking ticket: You see them placed on vehicles all the time. But Washington, D.C. residents may starting seeing more — from their neighbors, not just traffic officers.Councilman Charles Allen created the idea of DC's citizens handing out tickets. About 80 people around the district would be trained and certified to issue tickets, and use a mobile app to take a photo of the violation. The ticket would be issued in the postal mail."When someone is creating an immediate safety hazard there needs to be a consequence," Allen said. "So having the ability to have more essentially enforcement take place, all those little violations that are happening all the time, that impact our safety, that make our streets less safe — to be able to have enforcement be magnified is part of having safer streets."Residents aren't so sure about the idea. Some think the idea of a citizen giving another a ticket could create violence. Others say they like that council members are at least trying to think of a plan to help with parking woes in the nation's capital.If passed, the plan would go through a trial period. The idea is part of a larger bill to make streets safer after a series of deadly crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists. THE BRONX — Police say a man working on a transformer has been killed near an Amtrak rail line in in the Bronx Thursday morning, authorities said.Authorities were called to the scene after 11 a.m.MTA officials said the incident occurred at an Amtrak facility. The facility is located nearby a Con Edison Van Nest substation.FDNY officials confirmed one person was dead and two others sustained minor injuries. The Department of Justice announced indictments on Wednesday against four executives who were allegedly involved in a conspiracy to fix prices and rig bids for broiler chickens. Jayson Penn, Roger Austin, Mikell Fries, and Scott Brady were each charged with one antitrust charge in federal court. Penn is the President and Chief Executive Officer, and Austin is a former Vice President, of Pilgrim’s Pride, a chicken supplier headquartered in Colorado. Fries is the President and a member of the board, and Brady is a Vice President, of Claxton Poultry, a broiler chicken producer headquartered in Georgia.According to Pilgrim’s Pride, it provides 20% of all chicken consumed in the United States. Claxton Poultry says it produces 300 million pounds of poultry a year, and is a supplier for Chick-fil-A. The DOJ alleges that the foursome's actions caused chicken prices at restaurants and grocery stores to be impacted. “Particularly in times of global crisis, the division remains committed to prosecuting crimes intended to raise the prices Americans pay for food,” said Assistant Attorney General Makan Delrahim of the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. “Executives who cheat American consumers, restauranteurs, and grocers, and compromise the integrity of our food supply, will be held responsible for their actions.”The executives face a maximum sentence of 10 years, and a million fine, if convicted.
