FUZHOU, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm Lionrock, the eighth of this year, made landfall on east China's Fujian Province early Thursday morning, local meteorologists said.The storm landed at Gulei Town of Zhangpu County at around 6:50 a.m. with a speed of 82.8 km per hour near its center.Under the impact of Lionrock, torrential rain was seen along the coast of Zhangzhou City, and the rain was the heaviest in Dongshan and Zhangpu counties.No casualties have been reported.Local meteorologists have warned residents of mudflows and landslides that might be triggered by the tropical storm.The meteorologists forecast that rainfalls would be up to 100 to 200 mm in Zhangzhou, Quanzhou, Xiamen and Putian cities of Fujian from Thursday to Friday.By 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, 162,200 people in the province had been evacuated to safe places, and 50,703 fishing ships had been back to harbors.

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China here Thursday questioned the intentions of foreign governments who supported the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize going to Liu Xiaobo, saying those governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."What is the true intention of those foreign political figures and governments who support the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Liu Xiaobo? Is it because they resent China's development path and hate China's political system?" Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu questioned.Ma said at a regular news briefing that whether China had chosen the best way to more forward, both politically and socially, was best judged by the development reality in China, and the 1.3 billion Chinese people had the biggest say."China's affairs should be left to Chinese people themselves," Ma said, adding that the few biased individuals with the Norwegian Nobel Committee had no right to judge China, and western governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."We never interfere in other's internal affairs, and will not allow others to interfere in ours, " said Ma.The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo on Oct. 8th in Oslo, Norway. BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese general Thursday met with the head of a leading U.S. think tank and discussed the building of strong military ties between the two countries, despite military exchanges between the two nations having been frozen since January."A sound and stable China-U.S. military relationship is good for bilateral strategic trust and regional peace and stability," Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Ma Xiaotian told John Hamre, president of the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).Hamre served as the U.S. deputy secretary of defense during the Clinton administration before joining CSIS in 2000.Hamre is in China at the invitation of a leading Chinese think tank, the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, for an academic symposium."China has always attached great importance to developing military ties with the United States and has made efforts in this regard," Ma told Hamre."Stronger military-to-military ties will be a very good thing for the two countries...We should have broader and deeper contact," Hamre said.On growing bilateral military ties, Ma proposed both sides respect each other's core interests and major concerns.Both sides should also properly handle differences and sensitive issues, Ma added.Hamre said China's prosperity contributes to the world, adding that the PLA's development is "logical."The former U.S. defense official said it is necessary for the two militaries to maintain candid communication to keep stable military relations.

BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday called for accelerated public hospital reforms and the establishment of an essential medicine system to provide better health care.Li, who heads the State Council's leading group on health care reforms, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing.The essential medicine system planned by the reforms will allow citizens to buy affordable, effective and safe medicines, Li said.
