An African-American attorney for Maryland Legal Aid is accusing an officer with the Harford County Sheriff's office of detaining and questioning him after he appeared in court to represent his client.According to the attorneys defending Rashad James, James was getting an expungement for his absent client at the Harford County District Court when an officer with the Harford County Sheriff's Office suspected James was the client. They say James was acknowledged by the judge as the counsel representing the client and was granted the expungement petition. But when he was leaving the courtroom, he was stopped by the officer who addressed him using the client's name. They say James told the officer that he was not the client, but that he was his attorney. The officer then instructed James to show his ID, which James produced as evidence to support his identity. They say the officer did not accept his ID as proof and took him to an interview room where he was questioned for about ten minutes.The officer let him go after being questioned.An attorney representing James believes that if he was white, the officer would not have doubted that he was an attorney, would not have questioned his identity and would not have detained him after seeing his driver’s license.“There is no plausible explanation other than racial bias,” said Andrew D. A New York man is in custody after having been arrested and charged with threatening to assault and murder Rep. Ilhan Omar, according to the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.Patrick W. Carlineo, Jr., 55, of Addison, New York, threatened to kill Omar because of her Muslim faith, according to a criminal complaint and accompanying affidavit.Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, is one of the first two Muslim women serving in Congress after being elected in the 2018 midterms.A call was placed to Omar's Washington, DC, office on March 21, an FBI agent stated in the affidavit.During the call, an individual, who identified himself as Pat Carlineo, said to a staff member: "Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she's a (expletive) terrorist. I'll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull."Omar's office referred the threat to the US Capitol Police, which began an investigation with the FBI.Carlineo sounded angry during the call but provided the spelling of his name and contact information, the affidavit said.He was later interviewed by authorities where he stated that he was a patriot, that he loves President Donald Trump, and "that he hates radical Muslims in our government," the affidavit stated.He had initially claimed he had told Omar's office, "If our forefathers were still alive, they'd put a bullet in her head."When shown an email with the quote from the call regarding calling Omar a "terrorist" and threatening to kill her, Carlineo first replied that is not what he had said, according to the affidavit.He later admitted to authorities he may have said something like that but was unsure. Amazon customers no longer need to save their receipts or boxes if they need to return an item. Starting Monday, Amazon purchases can now be returned at all Kohl's locations nationwide. A study from the National Institutes of Health claimed that permanent hair dye and chemical hair straighteners could increase the risk of breast cancer among women. The study published online on Dec. 4 in the International Journal of Cancer found that women who used permanent hair dye and chemical hair straighteners were 9% more likely to develop breast cancer than those who did not. The NIH used a sample size of 46,709 women. Researchers stressed that there was little to no increase in breast cancer risk for semi-permanent or temporary dye use."Researchers have been studying the possible link between hair dye and cancer for a long time, but results have been inconsistent," said corresponding author Alexandra White, Ph.D., head of the NIEHS Environment and Cancer Epidemiology Group. "In our study, we see a higher breast cancer risk associated with hair dye use, and the effect is stronger in African American women, particularly those who are frequent users. "While the study suggests an increased risk for women, these results need to be replicated in other studies to make a conclusion, the NIH said. When asked if women should stop dyeing or straightening their hair, co-author Dale Sandler, Ph.D., chief of the NIEHS Epidemiology Branch, said, "We are exposed to many things that could potentially contribute to breast cancer, and it is unlikely that any single factor explains a woman’s risk.
