The US Office of Special Counsel announced Tuesday that White House aide Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act on two occasions by "advocating for and against candidates" in last year's Alabama Senate special election. In a new report, the OSC special counsel, Henry Kerner, pointed to Conway's TV interviews conducted in her "official capacity" in November and December of last year. The agency said Conway "impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election."One of the two interviews was on CNN's "New Day," and the second was on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."In a letter to President Donald Trump, Kerner said he is referring her violations for the President's "consideration of appropriate disciplinary action."The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.During the "Fox & Friends" interview November 20, Conway was introduced by the show's hosts as a "counselor to President Trump" and spoke from White House grounds. She said about Democratic Senate candidate Doug Jones: "Folks, don't be fooled. He'll be a vote against tax cuts. He's weak on crime, weak on borders. He's strong on raising your taxes. He's terrible for property owners."During the "New Day" interview December 6, Conway -- again speaking from White House grounds and introduced by CNN anchor Chris Cuomo as "counselor to President Trump" -- said among other things that Jones will be a reliable vote "for tax hikes," "against border security," "against national security," "against the Second Amendment" and "against life," according to the OSC report.Conway went on to tell Cuomo that Jones is "out of step for Alabama voters, according to the President," and that Trump "doesn't want a liberal Democrat representing Alabama in the United States Senate."The Office of Special Counsel is unrelated to the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.  1940

The United Kingdom says it will be the first to conduct COVID-19 vaccine human challenge trials. It's different than other vaccine studies. People will be deliberately infected with the virus, which speeds up the research process.Pending approval, the process will start in January at a London hospital. It will require about 90 healthy young adults between the ages of 18 and 30.The group 1 Day Sooner has recruited from all over the world, including 3,000 Britons.“If the vaccine works, then ideally, people don't get infected and if people do, then they will be closely monitored and treated, but because these are young and healthy people taking part in the trial, I think, researchers feel comfortable doing so because the risks of death are on par with something like kidney donation for people who are young and healthy,” said Abie Rohrig with 1 Day Sooner. Before researchers test the vaccine, they'll do a characterization study. That's where volunteers are infected by getting a vaccine to determine the right amount of virus to give during the trial.Because of the risk, 1 Day Sooner is advocating for the entire process to be made public. Results could come in May. Even though that's likely after other COVID-19 vaccines are licensed, it's still important because we need billions of doses and because of the unique data human challenge trials provide.“Researchers can understand how the virus works in the human body. They can understand the biological markers of immunity. In fact, much of our understanding of other types of coronaviruses come from challenge studies that were conducted in the 1960s in Britain,” said Rohrig.Human challenge volunteers are paid and monitored for at least a year after. 1722

The Seattle City Council unanimously approved a law on Tuesday that will raise the minimum pay for Uber and Lyft drivers. In a statement on the Seattle mayor's website, Mayor Jenny Durkan celebrated the city council passing her Fare Share Plan that would make ride-hailing companies pay their drivers the minimum hourly wage, which will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021."The pandemic has exposed the fault lines in our systems of worker protections, leaving many front line workers like gig workers without a safety net," Mayor Durkan said. "It is more important than ever that we add to the economic resilience of our community of drivers. The Fare Share plan guarantees that drivers will receive fair pay and can provide for themselves and their families."The ordinance guarantees drivers will earn at least The Russian lawyer who met last year with senior members of the Trump campaign said Donald Trump Jr. told her at the meeting that a Trump administration would be willing to review a 2012 sanctions law.Natalia Veselnitskaya, the lawyer who attended the meeting, made her comments from Moscow in an interview with Bloomberg published Monday. She said Trump Jr. told her: "Looking ahead, if we come to power, we can return to this issue and think what to do about it." 472.56 per minute and .33 per mile driven while transporting passengers. The measure uses a formula for drivers' compensation so they would be paid fairly when they're less busy. 994

The Republican Party announced tonight that President Donald Trump will accept the GOP nomination for president in Jacksonville, Florida. The convention was originally planned for Charlotte, North Carolina. The party could not receive assurances from North Carolina's Democratic governor that a ban on mass gatherings would not be lifted in time for the convention. North Carolina, like a number of other states, have limited mass public gathering during the spread of COVID-19.“We are thrilled to hold @realDonaldTrump 's acceptance of the Republican nomination in the great city of Jacksonville!” GOP chairperson Ronna McDaniel tweeted. “Not only is Florida his home state, it is crucial to victory. We look forward to bringing this great celebration and economic boon to the Sunshine State!”The party said it will still hold a number of convention-related activities in Charlotte."Because the current North Carolina COVID-19 restrictions would not allow for the celebration to occur in Charlotte and Governor [Roy] Cooper would not work with the RNC to offer guidelines, the celebration of the nomination and the economic impact that goes with it must be moved to Jacksonville," the GOP said in a statement.Despite a rise in coronavirus cases in recent weeks in Florida, the state's Republican governor was eager to accept the relocated nomination."Florida is honored to host this special event where we will celebrate the re-nomination of President Donald J. Trump," said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. "Jacksonville is a great city that will showcase Florida’s energy, facilities, entrepreneurship and commitment to bring together the delegates of the Republican Party at a historic time in our nation’s history." 1726
