JULIAN, Calif. (KGTV)-- This was the first weekend San Diegans were able to enjoy the snow-packed mountains. But morning road closures made traveling uphill from San Diego difficult. "It's been really magical the last few days. So I can understand why people would want to be a part of that," Nichols said. "Then two miles from here, it was bumper to bumper."Until 1 p.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol officers slowed down drivers to enforce chain controls along State Route 79 at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Many parts of Sunrise Highway were also shut down due to icy conditions. "In some parts, it was kind of scary. We were sliding a little bit," Aguiar said. Even after they finally made it into town, the waiting continued. Aguilar's main reason for coming up the hill was to get a bite of Nichol's mother's famous dessert at Mom's Pies. "I've tried Julian pies before, but these are the best," Aguiar said. Nichols said it is a recipe that has been kept a secret since 1984. It is a seasonal favorite that sells out, every time it snows."It's gotten busier as the day has gone on," Nichols said. "Apparently, the road opened up, so we got a little bit busier after that."Snow days may slow down traffic and clog up parking, but customers said it is all worthwhile."It's homemade, and it makes it better because we're with family," Aguiar said. (KGTV) - Some fire victims in Jamul are bracing for a potential power shutoff and more fire danger as the Santa Ana winds move in.A charred landscape marks what was once a picturesque Hidden Haven Farms. Co-owner Ryan Skidmore says his family got the call from SDG&E on Tuesday night, warning of a potential shutoff."Honestly it is was, 'here we go again.' We just got done with this," said Skidmore.Back in September, the Valley Fire decimated the 16-year-old farm known for sustainable farming. The Skidmores lost most of their crops and irrigation lines, along with 125 chickens.The family had tried to get wildfire insurance but was denied, partly because the farm is in a wildfire-prone area. Their total loss was more than 0,000.While several buildings were destroyed, seven others are still standing, including two homes. When the winds pick up, Skidmore will worry."There's flammable material on adjacent properties, and it could always come onto our property and burn what didn’t burn the first time," said Skidmore.Skidmore spent Wednesday hand trimming brush near structures. He'll also be checking his backup power sources, in case the power is shut off. Without power, they can't pump water from their wells."We have three different generators. A big one for the main house and smaller ones for tools and outbuildings," said Skidmore.With their power plans in place, Skidmore says they will settle in and brace for the wind."It's nerve-racking. The wind is so unpredictable," said Skidmore.Since the fires, neighbors have volunteered for cleanups and donated chickens and supplies. Statistically speaking, that’s not too far off. Identical triplets were born at Truman Medical Center Thursday to Nicole and Caleb Choge. Baby boys Ron, Elkanah, and Abishai were born just minutes apart and six weeks premature. By Sunday, the brothers were doing well under observation in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. According to doctors, it’s not uncommon for multiple births to come prematurely. What is uncommon is identical triplets. According to a study in the Journal of Biosocial Science, identical triplets occur only about 20 to 30 times per 1 million births. While the boys’ mother rested, new father Caleb Choge spoke with reporters Sunday. The couple, who have a 2-year-old son, was expecting another baby but were surprised when they saw the sonogram. “My wife and I and our son prayed for another child,” he said. “And then, I like to say, God answered everybody’s prayer: one, two and three.”Until recently, the couple lived in Kenya, Caleb Choge’s home country. JUNEAU, Alaska — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management plans to hold an oil and gas lease sale for land in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge next month. Meanwhile, banks around the world are publicly saying they will not finance oil and gas development in the Arctic.The land agency says it plans to hold a lease sale on Jan. 6. It comes just weeks before President-elect Joe Biden is set to take office, and he has said he opposes drilling in that region.The refuge is home to migrating caribou, polar bears and other wildlife."Congress directed us to hold lease sales in the ANWR Coastal Plain, and we have taken a significant step in announcing the first sale in advance of the December 2021 deadline set by law," said a statement Thursday from Chad Padgett, the Alaska state director for the Bureau of Land Management.In 2017, the Republican-led Congress approved legislation to open up the coastal Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil development. The measure required two lease sales within seven years, with the first sale no later than the end of 2021.Conservation groups criticized news of the sale as rushed and based on environmental reviews that are currently being challenged in court as flawed. One former employee told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him.The former production assistant, whose account has never previously been disclosed, told CNN that Spacey sexually assaulted him during one of the show's early seasons. All eight people, each of whom spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity for fear of professional repercussions for speaking out, described Spacey's behavior as "predatory," saying it included nonconsensual touching and crude comments and targeted production staffers who were typically young and male.The new accusations follow an explosive article published less than a week ago by BuzzFeed News, in which actor Anthony Rapp said Spacey made sexual advances toward him in 1985, when Rapp was 14 years old.On Monday, Spacey released an apology in response to Rapp's account. "I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago," Spacey said. "But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years." That's when the actor became "visibly flustered," fled the trailer, got in his car and left for the remainder of the day, according to the production assistant.The production assistant did not report the incident to any managers of the series or the police, but he did tell a coworker at the time. "It was a toxic environment for young men who had to interact with him at all in the crew, cast, background actors."The other people who worked on "House of Cards" with whom CNN spoke all supported the idea that the set could be toxic for young men because of Spacey.A crew member who worked on the show for all six seasons said that Spacey routinely harassed and touched him."He would put his hands on me in weird ways," the crew member said. "He would come in and massage my shoulders from behind or put his hands around me or touch my stomach sometimes in weird ways that in normal everyday conversation would not be appropriate."This crew member said he did not "feel comfortable" telling Spacey to stop. "That's the worst part about this whole thing.
