(KGTV) - Loved ones are mourning the death from COVID-19 of a retired CHP officer and beloved grandfather.Raul Martinez first started feeling sick in late August."Really tired and a fever," said Claudia Martinez.He tested positive for coronavirus and got sicker and sicker."He started complaining about having trouble breathing and he wouldn't eat," said Martinez.A few weeks after his first symptoms, his family brought him to the ER, where he was admitted.Raul, a diabetic, received various treatments, including Remdesivir, but late last month, he was placed on a ventilator."Super scared and panicked," said Martinez.Less than 24 hours later, Raul Martinez, a retired CHP officer, died at the age of 70."It was just shock and more pain than I can describe," said Martinez.Claudia says the father of four and grandfather of nine retired from the CHP a decade ago, after three decades on the job."He took pride definitely in servicing his community. He took pride in being a just person," said Martinez.He was also a careful person. During the pandemic, he and his wife were taking all the precautions."They were staying home a lot, wearing masks," said Martinez.She has no idea where he contracted the virus. CINCINNATI -- A 911 operator who was placed on leave after a teen's death will return to work Wednesday.Police spokeswoman Tiffaney Hardy couldn't say if that operator, Amber Smith, would face any discipline because an investigation is continuing.Smith took the second call Kyle Plush placed to 911 as he suffocated in his van outside Seven Hills School. (KGTV) - Extra security officers are in place at Eastlake High School in Chula Vista Friday due to confusion over a school threat at a similarly named school near Tampa, Florida.Pinellas County, Fla. deputies found an unspecific threat written on a wall of a girl’s bathroom at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs Thursday, according to TampaBay.com. The threat, which was also posted on Snapchat, warned students not to come to school Friday.Word of the Florida threat spread on San Diego County social media pages Thursday night, according to Sweetwater Union High School District spokesperson Manuel Rubio.There is no credible threat to Eastlake High School, Rubio said.As a precaution, the local school added extra security officers on campus Friday.  Families also received an automated phone call Friday morning to reassure them the campus was safe, according to Rubio.The written threat to Florida's East Lake High School has also been deemed not credible, said Pinellas County Sgt. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A Chula Vista company that sells health and wellness products received a letter from the Federal Trade Commission Friday warning company representatives to halt alleged claims that its products could treat or prevent COVID-19.Youngevity International Inc. was issued a letter stating that claims made on the company's website or through social media posts "unlawfully advertise that certain products treat or prevent" coronavirus.The FTC alleges one such claim made by Youngevity "business opportunity participants or representatives" includes a statement that with certain company products, "your body will be able to withstand and eliminate Covid-19 and the vaccines forthcoming for Covid-19."The agency also states that a link on the company's website marked "FlattenTheCurve Shop Immune Support" redirects users to the company's online store, where various "immune support" products are available for sale.Phone calls made to the company were transferred to Youngevity CEO Stephen Wallach, whose voicemail mailbox was full Friday afternoon.The FTC's letter states that it is unlawful to advertise that a product can prevent, treat or cure human disease without scientific evidence or studies substantiating such claims, of which there are none for COVID-19 in relation to Youngevity's products.The letter to Youngevity was one of six sent to companies across the country on Friday. The FTC also sent a batch of nearly 100 letters last month to various companies allegedly claiming their products and therapies could treat or prevent COVID-19, including four based in San Diego: ActiveHerb Technology Inc., Aspire Regenerative Health, EcoShield, LLC and Forever Ozone. 1699
