NASA has released satellite images showing how dark it is at night for areas impacted by Hurricane Michael. The images show the lighting from Oct. 6 compared to Oct. 12. The images show areas such as Panama City, Fla. and Tallahassee were much darker on Oct. 12 than on Oct. 6. Even towns in parts of Alabama and Georgia have also gone dark. Officials in Florida have said that it would likely take until Oct. 24 before the power is 95 percent restored. At its peak, 2.5 million were without power in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. There are 35,000 employees from power companies across the United States in the Southeast working to restore power.  675

(KGTV) - National City Treasurer Mitchel Beauchamp is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty Tuesday, including unlawfully trapping skunks and opossums.Court records obtained by 10News indicate the San Diego County District Attorney’s office believes Beauchamp maliciously and intentionally maimed, mutilated, tortured, wounded and killed an animal.Beauchamp told 10News he had a pest problem. He invited our crew into his yard to show us the humane trap he had been using. He also showed the crew where animals were moving from the canyon into his yard.According to County Animal Services, residents are allowed to relocate skunks and possums within a mile from their homes using a humane trap. Experts say the best way to keep pests out of your yard is to keep the area clean and don’t set out food. They recommend you hire a humane professional or learn to live with the animals.Beauchamp could be sentenced to up to one year in jail if convicted on all six counts.  1007

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CNS) - A 24-year-old man is today recovering after being shot in Mountain View.The victim was at a party in the 200 block of Southlook Avenue when a car, driven by a female suspect with a male suspect in the passenger seat, pulled up out front just before 9:40 p.m. Saturday.``The male suspect fired one round at the victim and struck him in the lower abdomen,'' said officer Robert Heims of the San Diego PoliceDepartment. ``The victim's mother drove the victim away from the scene and then called the police.''He was taken to a local hospital with non-critical injuries. NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Individuals convicted of a felony can't vote while incarcerated, on parole, or on probation in the State of Tennessee, and Terrancé Akins was one of those people — until this week.Akins will get to vote for the first time after serving 17 years in prison.When he was 17-years-old, Akins went to prison for especially aggravated robbery."I lost my family, I lost my freedom, and then I lost my right to vote," Akins said.He has started a non-profit called 'Blessed Incorporated' where he helps inner city kids stay out of trouble. It took four years, but now that he is on a steady path, he's excited to be able to vote for the first time. "It feels great. It feels wonderful," he said.In Tennessee, voting rights are restored when ex-felons complete their supervised release. Akins hopes his example will help encourage others to re-register to vote. "They give up on themselves, they give up on their lives, they figure that they can never really amount to anything, but that's not true. You have to believe in yourself and you have to believe that you matter and that your vote matter, and that's one thing that I did, I took the initiative to not just do this for me, but to do it for those that are coming behind me," said Akins.The voter registration deadline is on Tuesday, you can fill out a form online or sign up in person.Akins is now renting an apartment in Montgomery County. Early voting there starts Oct. 17 and runs through Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6. 1575
