SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the murder of a man stabbed in the chest during a fight in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood.San Diego Police homicide detectives were called to the 3400 block of Newton Avenue Wednesday just before 11:30 a.m., near Interstate 15 and just a block away from Emerson/Bandini Elementary School. Police said they found a man stabbed in the chest at least once, following a fight at a homeless encampment under I-15.The man died at UCSD Medical Center.Police said they have the suspect accused of the murder in custody after several homeless people who witnessed the fight helped police track the suspect down at a nearby park.Police have identified the victim but are not releasing his name. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More low-income seniors are taking back their independence with help from the St. Paul's PACE program.PACE helps seniors live independently at home by providing social services, in-home care, transportation, personalized medical services, and senior activities.Norma Griego is a PACE Certified Nursing Assistant and visits about six seniors a day. She checks on their well-being, does light housekeeping, and spends time socializing with the seniors. "Socialization is so important. There are times that they don't get out to see a lot of people and just listening to their stories is wonderful and then getting to know them and build relationships with them, it's amazing, it's just wonderful," said Griego.Iva Records is a PACE participant and is turning 102-years-old this Halloween. "Well I just like it here; I like my independence, I like to get up when I want to, I want my breakfast when I want it," Records.Because Records has trouble seeing, she relies on PACE to continue living independently at home. "They always are there for you," said Records. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – More drive-in entertainment is coming to Escondido’s Westfield North County mall as summer comes to a close.In August, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido (CCAE) hosted several drive-in live concerts at the former Nordstrom parking lot at the mall on 272 E Via Rancho Parkway.From September through November, the same mall parking lot will be the site for weekly drive-in movie screenings. Spaces for more than 250 vehicles will be made available and spaced apart to keep moviegoers safely distanced.Doors for the screenings will open at 6:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-serve basis. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Point Loma families fighting to preserve a makeshift bike track are up against another setback.The land is owned by the San Diego Housing Commission, which recently hired an independent firm to do a feasibility study of the property. The firm looked at traffic, environmental factors, and the impact on schools; ultimately concluding it's feasible to build on the site. "Definitely heartbroken, this is such a special spot for our community," said Darren Miller, who often brings his boys to ride on the track. But Rick Gentry, President and CEO of the San Diego Housing Commission, says it's their job to create as much affordable housing in the city as possible. There are currently 80,000 people waiting for a Section 8 Housing Voucher. "The neighbors don't like to see the neighborhoods change, but change is going to happen, growth is going to occur. San Diego now is not producing enough housing to keep up with the rate of growth of the population," said Gentry. Miller and other neighbors have serious concerns about building on the land. "I don't know if they're necessarily opposed to affordable housing, I think they're just opposed to more development in an area that's already over-developed. In addition to just being an open space, it's a wetland," said Miller. The Housing Commission will be seeking developers for the project.
