CHONGQING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have ordered the local authorities to spare no efforts to save those people buried in a fatal landslide in the southwest city of Chongqing.     Caution must be taken to avoid life losses during the rescue work, the two leaders said.     Chinese vice-premier Zhang Dejiang arrived at the landslide site in Wulong county at 5 a.m. Saturday to oversee the rescue efforts.     At least 80 people are feared buried in the landslide at an iron ore mining area. BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met here with delegates from South Asian countries Thursday, calling on the broadcast institutions in China and South Asia to forge further cooperation.    ; Exchanges among broadcast institutions are a very important component of cooperation between China and South Asian countries, said Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, during a meeting with the delegates who were here to attend a China-South Asia forum on radio and television.     Li said media interactions are necessary to increase mutual understanding and boost common development between the countries.     The forum was attended by delegates from China and seven membercountries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation,or SAARC. BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China and Peru on Tuesday signed a free trade agreement (FTA) in Beijing, capping over-a-year-long negotiations and legal processes. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and his Peruvian counterpart Luis Giampietri Rojas witnessed the signing ceremony in Beijing, with both hailing the deal "a new landmark" in bilateral ties.     "China-Peru agreement is the first FTA package China has signed with a Latin American country," said the Chinese Commerce Ministry. A complementary deal on service trade was signed with Chile in 2008.     "The pact features a high degree of openness," Zhu said, citing phased, free tariffs on more than 90 percent of goods ranging from China's electronic products and machinery to Peru's fish powder and minerals.     Under the deal, both pledged to further open their service sectors and offer national treatment to investors from the other country.     China and Peru also reached agreement on intellectual property, trade rescue, customs procedures and other fields.     The official said the pact would play an important role in helping both nations deal with global financial foes and boosting their own economies.     Trade between the two countries reached 7.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2008, according to Chinese customs authority.     The FTA deal is likely to come into force in early 2010, Zhu said.     Since the beginning of the decade, Beijing has vigorously pursued free trade agreements. So far, China has signed FTA deals with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Chile, Pakistan, New Zealand, Singapore and Peru.     China is also in free trade talks with Australia, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Iceland, Norway and Costa Rica, among others.

BEIJING, May 12 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official has called on discipline chiefs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at all levels to take the initiative of being self-regulatory and clean-handed.     He Guoqiang, secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remark when meeting the Party's discipline chiefs at county level in Beijing on Tuesday.     He, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, attached great importance to county-level discipline organs comprising the Party's discipline and inspection system.     The official called on the chiefs to conduct a determined and uncompromising fight against all corrupted officials and behaviors to defend the people's interests.     He urged Party committees and governments at all levels to improve the financial conditions, equipment and facilities of the county-level discipline organs for a better anti-corruption performance with the discipline inspectors.     More than 2,000 secretaries of discipline organs at county level throughout the country have been gathered in Beijing to attend a focused training course, the first of its kind in the history of the CPC's discipline work.     The training course, held in Party School of the CPC Central Committee, National School of Administration and training center of Supervision Ministry, has been aimed at improving their abilities to fight against corruption as well as maintain social stability.
