SHANGHAI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday called on the Chinese people to pool their strength and resources to make sure the Shanghai World Expo a success.     With just 106 days to go before the Expo opening on May 1, Hu visited the Expo site Friday during an inspection tour in Shanghai.     "Hosting the World Expo is not only a significant event of Shanghai, but also of the whole nation," he said, noting it was both the responsibility of Shanghai and the whole country to hold a successful Expo. The Expo's organizing committee should enhance its leading role and supervision to push forward relevant preparatory work orderly, he said.     Hu put forward six requirements on the Expo's preparatory work:     - To ensure the Expo site's infrastructure building and exhibition arrangements be completed on time;     - To ensure sound service and logistics;     - Security should be fully guaranteed;     - Foreign affairs work, including receptions of international guests, must be well handled;     - To ensure efficient and effective publicity work;     - To create a civilized, happy and peaceful atmosphere.     Hu said though the Expo was a big challenge, he believed it would be a "successful, brilliant and memorable" event with the support of the Chinese people, especially the contributions of Shanghai officials and residents.     The Shanghai World Expo, which is expected to receive 70 million visitors, will last from May 1 to Oct. 31.     So far, 35 of the 42 self-built foreign pavilions have started interior decoration and exhibition arrangement, and 11 joint pavilions have been completed.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese educational institutions blamed for cyber attacks on Google and other firms said Saturday the allegations are unfounded.The New York Times reported Thursday the cyber attacks on Google and other American firms have been traced to Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) and Lanxiang Vocational School (Lanxiang) in east China's Shandong Province, which the report alleged has ties to the Chinese military."We were shocked and indignant to hear these baseless allegations which may harm the university's reputation," said a SJTU spokesperson.The spokesperson said the allegation linking the attacks with SJTU students or teachers does not hold water."The report of the New York Times was based simply on an IP address. Given the highly developed network technology today, such a report is neither objective nor balanced," the spokesperson said.SJTU will fully cooperate with investigators if Google seeks judicial remedies, the spokesperson said.Li Zixiang, party chief at Lanxiang, another alleged source of the attacks, said, "Investigation in the staff found no trace that the attacks originated from our school."Lanxiang students are still on their winter vacation, Li added.He said Lanxiang has no relations with the military, adding that school authorities do not have military backing.He also dismissed the report's suggestion of involvement of a "specific computer science class" taught by a Ukrainian professor."There is no Ukrainian teacher in the school and we have never employed any foreign staff," Li confirmed."The report was unfounded. BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- China's central bank asked the nation's lenders to increase loans for rural development as farmers and rural business still had limited access to financing.Banks should issue more microloans to farmers to foster rural industries and urbanization, Liu Shiyu, deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, said at a meeting on rural financing service on Sunday."More efforts should be made to encourage financial institutions to offer rural financing services and participate in rural financial market," he said.Rural credit cooperatives should speed up corporate restructuring and play a leading role in rural financial market, Liu said.He also urged efforts to establish more village banks, microcredit companies and new types of financial institutions.Poor access to fund, as one of the reasons, has long kept China's rural development left behind the urban modernization.The situation has not been significantly improved despite repeated calls by government, as banks are relunctant to lend for lack of collaterals.By the end of September 2009, rural loans increased 29.1 percent year on year to 8.8 trillion yuan (1.29 trillion U.S. dollars), 8.3 percentage points higher than a year earlier
