A woman in Illinois who tried to spike a toddler's sippy cup of milk with nail polish remover has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Andrea Vazquez-Hernandez, 37, of Carol Stream, Illinois was sentenced Friday after being found guilty of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a child under 13 earlier this year.In May 2016, Vazquez-Hernandez mixed "one inch" of nail polish remover with milk and gave it to her husband's daughter. The girl immediately spit out the milk when she tasted the nail polish remover and was taken to the hospital. She was later released, and tests later revealed that her milk had been spiked.The girl had been fathered by Vazquez-Hernandez's husband with another woman, and Vazquez-Hernandez reportedly tried to poison the girl in order to punish her father.During her sentencing, the Chicago Tribune reports that Vazquez-Hernandez told the judge that she thanked God that the child was OK, but the judge was reportedly concerned about Vazquez-Hernandez's "lack of remorse."Vazquez-Hernandez will be required to serve at least five years of her 10-year sentence before being released.Alex Hider is a writer for the E.W. American Airlines announced they will furlough or layoff about 19,000 employees in October, as they struggle with lower passenger rates during the coronavirus pandemic. Flight attendants will bear the heaviest cuts, with 8,100 losing their jobs.The airline originally warned that 25,000 flight attendants, pilots and frontline workers could be at risk of furloughs. Tuesday’s announcement comes after about 23,000 employees took early retirement or voluntary leave, according to the Dallas Morning News.The furloughs come a week after American announced they would be cutting service to 15 markets “as a result of low demand and the expiration of the air service requirements associated with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.”U.S. air travel has recovered slightly since April but remains down 70% from a year ago, and carriers say they need fewer workers.In March, passenger airlines got billion from the government to save jobs for six months, but that money and a ban on furloughs both expire Oct. 1. 1044

Actress Katherine "Scottie" MacGregor, who played Harriet Oleson on "Little House on the Prairie," died on Tuesday at age 93 in Woodland Hills, Calif., a representative confirmed to NBC News. MacGregor was credited in 153 of Little House on the Prairie's 203 episodes. The show portrayed a family living on a Minnesota farm. MacGregor's Oleson was the general store owner's wife, and she played a character who had a bit of sass. When the show ended in 1983, MacGregor largely stepped away from acting after a three-decade career in the field. MacGregor's co-star on Little House on the Prairie Melissa Gilbert saluted MacGregor with an Instagram post on Wednesday. "She was outspoken and hilariously funny," Gilbert wrote.
