DENVER — A Denver couple that drove to Little Rock, Arkansas to pick up three puppies purchased online, is now warning others about a pet scam that cost them hundreds of dollars.Breckenridge and Mary Lynn Grover love French bulldogs. Mary Lynn Grover said the owner asked them to send money via the Zelle app.They hadn’t used it before but thought they’d give it a try, then had second thoughts.“We did everything,” she said. “Wells Fargo was wonderful getting things back, saying ‘I think this guy chickened out. He didn’t even have a Zelle account.’ ”The Grovers continued their search, trying to be more cautious the second time around.They found three French bulldogs via online advertisements and said the seller poured on the charm.“He said, ‘Now you are part of my family. These were my mother’s puppies.’ He even sent us a picture of the kennel he was buying for us and said, ‘I will make dinner.’ I mean he knew me as a soft spot. He said all the right things to me.”The Denver couple drove to Arkansas. But halfway there they received a phone call.“He said, ‘Oh, by the way, could you also pick up a gift card at Walmart?’ ”Mary Lynn said that’s when the red flags went up.She said they didn’t pick up a gift card; they just kept driving.“I texted him, saying ‘We’re coming.’ We got to the house; it’s dark,” she said.There was no answer at the door, so Mary Lynn Grover called the two numbers they had for the seller, who said his name was Bill Todd.“A woman answered and asked, ‘How did you get this number?’ I described what happened. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - For the past five days, five shark sightings have been reported off North San Diego County beaches, Del Mar lifeguards tell 10News. A juvenile shark, about 5 feet long, was spotted Friday afternoon. It did not show signs of aggressive behavior, lifeguards said. The water was not cleared of swimmers and surfers. Del Mar’s shark sightings started Monday and have continued every day this week. Sighting locations include 15th and 29th streets, City of Del Mar officials reported. Drew Pierce, who went to Del Mar to avoid triple-digit heat in Temecula, was in the water Wednesday when he saw several 3-4 foot long sharks. DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif. — An automated measuring system in California's Death Valley reported a temperature of 130 degrees amid a blistering heatwave on Sunday.The reading would be among the highest ever recorded globally if it is confirmed.The National Weather Service says the high was recorded at 3:41 p.m. at Furnace Creek near the park's visitor center.It's the same location where the world record high of 134 degrees was recorded in July 1913. Detroit police are investigating after a teen was shot in the back of the head while live on Instagram.According to police, it happened in a home in the 17600 block of San Juan on the city's west side.Police say just before midnight, two 18-year-old men were live on Instagram with guns and money. Per the suspect, he accidentally put his finger on the trigger and discharged the rifle, striking the other 18-year-old in the back of the head in the living room.Police and medics arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.The other 18-year-old was taken into custody.  583
