Scientists are warning that a domino effect will kick in if global temperatures rise more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, leading to "hothouse" conditions and higher sea levels, making some areas on Earth uninhabitable.The report, "Trajectories of the Earth System in the Anthropocene," published Monday in the American Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, said "hothouse" temperatures could stabilize 4 degrees to 5 degrees Celsius (39 to 41 Fahrenheit) higher than pre-industrial levels."Human emissions of greenhouse gas are not the sole determinant of temperature on Earth. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies say a father has been arrested months after the death of his infant child in Santee.Daniel Charles Marshall, 34, was arrested on Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and booked into San Diego Central jail for murder and child abuse resulting in death, according to the Sheriff's Department (SDSO).On April 22, 2020, Santee Fire Department responded to a home in the 8600 block of Paseo Del Rey in Santee to a report of a seven-month-old infant in medical distress. The infant was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead three days later.Child abuse investigators responded to the scene and, eventually, homicide detectives took over the case.Homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the infant's father, Marshall, who was arrested this week.Anyone who may have any information about the case is asked to call the SDSO Homicide Unit at 858-285-6330/after hours at 858565-5200, or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1027

(KGTV) -Business owners in San Ysidro worry that yet another month of restrictions on non-essential travel between the US, Mexico, and Canada could close them for good.For the eighth month in a row, the land borders between the United States and its neighboring countries to the north and south will remain closed to non-essential travel to help limit the spread of COVID-19.Monday U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials confirmed the extension would last through at least December 21st.Geneva Gamez and her family run Tacos La Fronterra in San Ysidro. "It's kind of been a roller coaster ever since. Everything keeps changing," said Gamez. The agreement continues the hold on tourism and recreational trips, but essential business and trade are not affected. Crossing for educational or medical reasons is also permitted. "You don't get much traffic down there unless somebody is going into Mexico or coming back from Mexico," said Gamez.Gustavo De La Fuente is the executive director of the Smart Border Coalition. He said the impact of the restrictions is far-reaching." You're looking at a little over 700 businesses that could close definitely, and that's actually very worrisome," said De La Fuente. The holiday season is when many of the business owners make most of their money."This is the time of the year when 80% or more of their sales are coming for the entire year, their sales are most of their sales are concentrated in these last 5, 6 weeks of the year," said De La Fuente. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Marcos Unified School District teachers and parents flooded the school board meeting Tuesday night asking for the board to come to a contract agreement with their union. The meeting was standing room only. Union officials say they've been without a contract since last June and that they've tried to negotiate with the district. They're fighting for higher pay and smaller class sizes and getting all of these things in writing. There was no item on the agenda at Tuesday's meeting but the superintendent did address the teachers and parents directly during a presentation. Dr. Garcia told the crowd she hears them and appreciates them being present at the meeting but told them the issue with the union's request is a lack of adequate funding at the state level. The union and the district will be back at the bargaining table Tuesday, April 23rd. 890

SAN ONOFRE (KGTV) -- Police chased a domestic violence suspect from Los Angeles County to San Diego County Thursday night. The driver, who has family in Tijuana, was believe to be heading to the border, according to our ABC affiliate in L.A.?At one point, the suspect may have ran over a spike strip, slowing him down. Once near the Camp Pendleton area police attempted two pit maneuvers. Shortly after the suspect drove off the freeway and into the brush, where he ultimately turned off the car and exited his vehicle. Police were able to take him into custody around 11:20 p.m. and began to search the vehicle. *This is a developing story. 10News will continue to update as more details unfold.  730
