SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The man responsible for a fatal drunk driving crash nearly two years ago was sentenced to more than three decades in prison Friday. San Diego Superior Court Judge Joan Weber handed Jeffrey Levi a sentence of 30 years to life in prison, plus an additional four years for the crash that killed 19-year-old Isaac Felix and 33-year-old Jesus Dominguez. “I do want to remind you Mr. Levi, because I know that you’re going to be living with that for the rest of your life, that you killed these two young people and burned them to death, you permanently maimed another young woman, and injured an officer,” said Weber. “By my count, you made four fatal decisions on that night."In January 2018, Levi got behind the wheel of his Mustang while drunk and drove more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 15. The Corolla was disabled in the freeway lanes, then hit by an SUV driven by an off-duty San Diego Police sergeant. The sedan burst into flames, killing Felix and Jesus Dominguez. Giovanna was severely injured but rescued by Good Samaritans. Sgt. Raymond Rowe was also injured. Levi fled the scene, completely uninjured. He was later found and arrested. “I made very serious mistakes with detrimental consequences; I relapsed,” said Levi after explaining his attempt at rehab for his alcoholism. “I think of Jesus, Isaac, Giovanna and their friends and families every day. I wish that I could do or say something to change what happened, but I can’t and I have to live with that forever.” In August, a jury found Levi guilty of second-degree murder, hit and run, drunk driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also has a prior DUI conviction from 2007. The victims’ families have also filed a civil lawsuit against Levi, the City of San Diego and Sgt. Rowe. That case is pending. 1977

Father Son Holy Spirit," she said crossing herself, "and I dropped to my knees."Muno had a career in aviation, performing duties from flight attendant to loading the aircraft and working on flight plans. Just watching the video made her tear up, knowing his safe landing was a miracle."We're all blessed. If I had lost Ryan, but he saved so many people," she said wiping away a tear.Muno said Ryan's been an instructor for two years, pursuing his second dream after a concussion during a baseball game changed his trajectory."When he was a little baby he used to lay down in the first class cabin and just go to sleep," she said he found his love of flying from growing up traveling with her.After his emergency landing, she's not too keen on him jumping back into the cockpit.Last night she urged him to hang out with his friends, or his father, "because if I get you, I'm never going to let you go," she said choking back tears.She said Ryan is probably going to go back to work tomorrow. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The effort to establish a new independent police commission in the City of San Diego appears to be heading to victory.As of Wednesday afternoon, Measure B was leading with roughly 75% voting yes.There is currently a Community Review Board on Police Practices, but supporters of Measure B said that body is far from independent.“Their legal council is the city attorney, who represents both the Police Officers Association and the CRB so it represents a true conflict of interest,” Maresa Talbert with San Diegans for Justice told ABC 10News back in June.Proponents of the new Commission on Police Practices said they have been waiting for years for this to be a reality.“A lot of people will look at this and think, oh look, it happened overnight. Well, no,” said Martha Sullivan, one of the early members of Women Occupy San Diego. “It took nine years of very persistent [and] consistent, research, education, [and] lobbying.”One of the goals of Women Occupy San Diego ended up being police reform after the Occupy San Diego protests in 2011 and 2012. Sullivan said they submitted complaints to the review board at that time, but many of those complaints were lost.Since then, the push for an independent police commission grew. “This measure is the epitome of strength in numbers. It is the epitome of community support,” said Andrea St. Julian with San Diegans for Justice. She helped write the charter amendment that ultimately became Measure B.The Community Review Board will be dissolved and the new commission will be formed, once election results are certified. The commission will have independent counsel, subpoena power, and the ability to review officer misconduct and make recommendations.“They'll have greatly expanded powers, a lot more responsibility, and a lot more freedom to do the right thing,” St. Julian said.Jack Schaeffer, President of the San Diego Police Officers Association, said the POA took a neutral stance on Measure B.“We trusted the voters to decide on the type of oversight that they believe is necessary. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The family of a California Firefighter is hoping for his safe return after authorities in Mexico arrested two people linked to the case.Authorities announced on Friday that they had arrested a couple linked to the case. The couple has been identified as 32-year-old Fanny N. and 27-year-old Santos N.They say the couple had bank cards with Aguilar's name on them, and the cards were used at businesses in Ensenada, Rosarito, and Tijuana. The arrest was made Thursday.Aguilar disappeared in August when we went to his second home in Baja California.According to Mexican authorities, Aguilar had arranged to meet with one of the suspects at a Rosarito address. They believe it could have been a set up to kidnap him. Aguilar tried to escape.Authorities say neighbors heard gunshots and investigators found bloodstains in the area, but they have not been able to locate Aguilar.Aguilar's cousin in San Diego county, Nancy, says she is hopeful that her cousin will be found."I have faith that he's out there alive, and we are going to find him," she said.Authorities are questioning the suspects for leads. 1129
