SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego says it is working to earn back the public's trust after thousands of families got hit with erroneously high water bills this year. But the problems appear to be persisting. Ed Kitrosser and his wife just got a bill for 3, more than double the usual for their home in Pacific Beach."We're on automatic sprinklers. Nothing has changed, the setting has not been changed for several years," said Kitrosser. Their concerns come after a city audit found that about 3,000 San Diegans got erroneous water bills, largely due to human error. Shawn Tobias, of La Jolla, is questioning a bill he received for more than ,800."You call the city and say 'I'm pretty sure you made a mistake on this' and they say 'no, no, this is what you used,' and then your heart drops," Tobias said. That includes increased oversight on meter readers, addressing a backlog of meters that need repair, and improving communication with customers."We are now holding everyone accountable," said Johnnie Perkins, the city's deputy chief operating officer. "It's going to take some time, because this wasn't created overnight, but we're certainly going to improve it as fast as we can."The city says it is not charging late fees or turning the water off on anyone disputing a bill. They bought all this food and then they said, ‘Oh, we're going make you guys dinner.’ I’m like, ‘Totally! I’m not going to pass up a meal by real Italians. I mean, that's crazy!’”Fallentine says when her own family home-swaps, having access to another home’s kitchen is one of the biggest cost-savers.“If you're thinking about the food aspect, just to be able to cook your own food is amazing and [you have a] full kitchen with everything you need,” she adds.Another perk is having access to a home's laundry room. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The famed Jessop's Clock that has rested in Horton Plaza since the center opened has been removed.Tuesday, the clock was moved into temporary storage, though the location is not being revealed, according to Jim Jessop, former owner of Jessop's Jewelry, a plaza mainstay for 125 years before closing in 2017.Upon announcing the closing of Jessop's Jewelry, the plaza asked Jessop to move the clock.RELATED: Grocery chain suing Horton Plaza over millions in sales lossesIt's likely the clock, constructed in 1907, will remain in temporary storage for a couple of years until its new location's lease is signed, Jessop says.The fact that its current location is being kept secret may be due to security concerns. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The City of San Diego approved a -million contract for a feasibility study and designs for a multi-purpose training facility for first responders.The contract was approved Wednesday by the Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Councilman Chris Cate said he is very excited about the opportunity, "the goal in this endeavor is to have a central location for both our firefighters and our police officers to have a viable long term solution for their training facility."Currently San Diego Police and Fire train at a facility just north of Terminal 2, at Lindbergh Field.Along with asbestos problems, the entire facility will come down to make way for the Pure Water San Diego Project, that will turn wastewater into drinking water."We have to be in construction before that because all of those guys have to be out of there," Cate said the deadline is 2027. He hopes by that time a permanent facility will be open for the first responders.Some of the items on the wish list, "classrooms, virtual simulations and testing/tactical obstacle courses, life-size training buildings, home simulations simulating burn scenarios, and many other necessary components required for a safe city."Cate said another important part of the process is weighing the opinions of neighbors, both in households, and businesses. One woman who works nearby said she's worried how much traffic a facility like that could bring.Cate is most concerned about police, fire and SWAT personnel, "it's incumbent upon us as policy makers to make sure that they have all the tools that they need to do their jobs very well for the public."The study is set to be completed by Summer 2020.
