SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An incredible San Diego holiday tradition is making its way back to the bay.The San Diego Parade Bay of Lights has announced this year’s dates and times to take in the spectacular holiday tradition.This year, the parade will take place December 9 and December 16. The event begins at 5 p.m. and will make its way through the Bayfront.Before making the turn to Coronado, the parade will proceed to the pier at Cesar Chavez Park.The parade is put on annually by the Port of San Diego and brings more than 100,000 residents and visitors to the bay each year. Roughly 80 boats are expected to participate in the parade’s 47th year. 655

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A teen suffered serious injuries after a firework he was holding exploded early Thursday morning.ABC 10News learned the incident happened at around 2 a.m. in the 5500 block of Montezuma Road, near San Diego State University.The 18-year-old male was apparently holding an M80 when it suddenly went off. The teen reportedly lost most of his fingers and suffered an injury to his foot.The teen was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment. Details on his injuries were not immediately released.No other injuries were reported in the incident. 576

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An American hero has passed away at the age of 103. Chief Steward Andy Mills broke barriers in the military and is best known for his heroic actions during the Battle of Midway.His niece, Carolyn Coleman, says it's hard to pick just one word that describes her uncle."He was amazing, sweet, generous, kindhearted, amazing, loving, I could go on and on and on," said Coleman.Mills enlisted in the then-segregated U.S. Navy as a steward in 1934. At the time African American's were assigned the worst possible jobs and treated like second-class citizens.Despite that, Mills made his mark during the harrowing four-day battle when he was tasked with finding important documents on a sinking ship. Mills was the only one able to crack the safe.Mills would go on to become one of the Navy's first black chiefs."He was a hero," said Carolyn. "I'm going to miss him, I'm going to miss that man."Mills will receive military funeral honors next week. 968

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Aldofo Otanez was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 17-years-old."When he's medicated correctly he's very funny, he's always very caring very caring person," said his brother Tomas. Aldofo has been in and out of treatment centers his whole life. Most recently, a hospital assigned him to a home in Spring Valley called Mi Casa Es Su Casa. "Right away we said, 'no, he's never been in a place like this,"' said Tomas. "People don't fit in there. They don't, they're crumbled up, there's about 3 or 4 people per room."Tomas was planning a trip to visit his brother on February 16th. When he called the facility, he says they told him Aldofo had been missing for two days. "It's disturbing," said Tomas. "I mean, it shouldn't happen, a simple phone call, 'your brother isn't here, it's been a day or two'. Give us a call..nothing."It's been more than two weeks now with no sign of Adolfo. "It's very sad, I'm taking it as calm as I can so I can think about what to do next." The family is passing out flyers and posting pictures to Instagram with hopes that someone knows where he is. "The family is pretty sad, I've got a lot of siblings and they're all very worried.""He has no money, no ID, no social security on him," said Tomas. "So he's just stranded out there somewhere."10News spoke to the manager of Mi Casa Es Su Casa who says he didn't call the family right away because he claims to have lost their contact info. He also says he didn't file a missing persons report because police would not let him. San Diego Police checked their records and said they never spoke to the facility that day. The family is holding a search party on March 3rd in the Starbucks parking lot at 8626 Jamacha Boulevard. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A water hydrant break Friday flooded a stretch of Midway District road and swallowed a traffic signal.The break was reported on Midway Drive between Sports Arena Boulevard and Kemper Street, according to San Diego police. The stretch of road was closed fdue to flooding.There was no estimated time of restoration.The flooding in the area was so severe, a traffic signal sunk about halfway into the ground.San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were able to shut the water off shortly before 5:30 p.m. 516
