LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - An explosive fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a home in Lemon Grove, Heartland Fire officials said.The flames erupted at 1783 Dupont Drive just before 4 p.m. and were accompanied by explosions, according to firefighters. When crews arrived at the scene, the home was 50 percent engulfed in flames.The Sheriff's Department told 10News neighboring homes were evacuated due to the safety risk.Crews at the scene resuscitated a cat in the front yard, 10News reporter Matt Boone said. It ran away after crews helped it.No one was injured.There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. 628

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - Dozens of people lined up for hours, as Play it Again Sports reopened in La Mesa on Thursday morning.Alfredo Lopez was the first in line, hoping to buy new weights."It says they're really resilient. So I think that's definitely part of what La Mesa has," Lopez says.The store had been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. But it had to stay closed longer than expected after looters destroyed the store following protests in La Mesa on May 30.The protests were over police violence, but the angry mob that attacked the Play it Again Sports came long after the protests ended."I was not happy. I was upset that night, for sure," says owner Dan Buxton. "So much had been put into the store and for all it to be taken away at that moment, it hurt."Buxton says he had to replace the ceiling, the light fixtures, the flooring, windows, displays, and much of his inventory.But he says the community helped rebuild and showed its true colors."Clearly, the real La Mesa is what we saw after May 30 and we're proud to be part of it," says Buxton.As for the line that greeted him when he opened the store Thursday, Buxton simply said, "Thank you.""Just like the support we've been receiving for the past 7 weeks, it's the same thing," he says. Larry Nassar said he was the victim, not his patients.In more than three hours of interviews with police, obtained by Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit through the Freedom of Information Act, Nassar appears befuddled and defiant when faced with allegations that he abused patients.“It’s like blindsiding someone,” Nassar told a detective. “You’re doing this and you’re doing it for good to help someone and they’re giving you the positive feedback that you’re helping them, how do I know I’m hurting them?”The interviews stem from complaints filed against Nassar in 2014 and 2016.  Both interviews were conducted by officers with the Michigan State University Police Department.In August 2014, MSU police interviewed Nassar after a graduate student complained he sexually assaulted her during an appointment. Nassar had gotten wind of the complaint from one of his colleague, Dr. Jeffrey Kovan.“What else did he tell you?” asked Capt. Valerie O’Brien.“That she felt violated, that I was doing, like I touched her breast and I moved her underwear out of the way. And I’m like, yeah. I do that all the time,” Nassar said.  Nassar brought a laptop to the interview, showing the officer videos of him performing past medical treatments that required contact with intimate parts of women’s bodies, an attempt to convince the detective that everything was fine. “This is a treatment that I lecture on. I lecture on not only here at Michigan State,” Nassar said. “I was the keynote guest speaker in Australia to the Australian Olympic sports medicine for this very technique.”For each allegation made by the young woman, Nassar had the same response: it’s a standard medical procedure. She’s confused. I’m sorry.“She said that she felt like you were massaging her breast and that was not part of the manipulation that you were doing,” O’Brien said.“It’s the rib cage, you know what I mean?” Nassar said. “You’re going to be on the chest wall, you move the breast down, you move the breast down to get down to the wall. It’s like giving someone a mammogram almost.”During the 2014 interview, the officer asked Nassar if he’s ever been accused of abuse before.“There has been a few times where that has been brought up. Okay? And each and every time they were sexually abused,” Nassar said.“So, that’s what, that’s what I’m saying, when they’re uncomfortable about that, there’s been three cases. And all three of them were sexually abused. Okay? So that’s why I’m like, yeah. That’s why I’m like, is there something more? What am I missing?”The 2014 interview lasted more than two hours. MSU police wanted to bring charges but the Ingham County prosecutor declined.Two years later, Nassar was back at MSU police—when another victim came forward.“Has there been another complaint?” Nassar asked. “I’m just like confused right now.”A second complaint had been filed by Rachael Denhollander, a past Nassar patient.“I’m trying very hard to do things where I’m not being nearly as invasive,” Nassar said, saying he learned from the last police complaint. “But it compromises things.  So I’m trying to modify that.”In the 2016 interview, Lieutenant Andrea Munford asked Nassar about details from his past treatment of Denhollander.“Do you ever get aroused during these exams?” she asked, catching Nassar off guard.“Do I get aroused during the exam?” he asked.“Do you ever get an erection?” Munford asked. “The reason why I’m talking about this is because this young girl and her mother both observed this on more than one occasion during treatment.”Nassar replied: “If there was arousal it’s, it’s, it’s…you know what I mean? (KGTV) - An Uber driver says she was physically assaulted by a passenger Sunday night in La Mesa after a dispute over a mask."This is definitely the most insane experience driving with Uber that I've ever had," said Tia.Just past 6 p.m. Sunday, Tia, who first started driving for Uber last summer, arrived for a pickup outside the Echo Pointe apartments.Tia says a man and the passenger's sister ushered the passenger into the car with a warning for Tia: the passenger was drunk."She didn't have a mask on ... so I asked her if she could please put on a spare mask, which I had in the back seat. Took her awhile to put it on, but she did," said Tia.As the ride got started, Tia says her passenger wouldn't let it go."She said in a very snarky tone, 'Are you more comfortable now that I have a mask on?' She was very drunk, very belligerent, yelling," said Tia.Tia say she decided to end the ride."I was fed up with the disrespect," said Tia.Tia says she returned to the pickup spot and asked her to get out repeatedly, but the woman refused. Tia recorded some of it on her phone. Tia, who eventually called 911, says when she got out of the car and reached in to remove the woman's belongings, the passenger grabbed her neck from behind.According to Tia, the passenger became violent, chasing her around the car for several minutes, at one point hitting in the right eye. Tia says the passenger's sister and the man came out and subdued the woman, allowing Tia to drive away, and meet police and file a report."I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe I was assaulted for essentially wearing a mask ... People need to treat each other with respect. Wear a mask ... We're just trying to keep everybody safe," said Tia.Tia says she's still feeling pain in her eye but she's feeling better. She's hoping an arrest is made so a message is sent: this behavior is not acceptable.A La Mesa Police spokesperson says they are awaiting the report to be turned in by the officer before it is assigned to an investigator. 2030

(KGTV) — This week, police say they arrested a La Mesa businessman, who was the subject of an inappropriate video posted online earlier this year, for violating a restraining order.La Mesa Police said Peter Carzis was arrested Tuesday and charged with violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Officers responded to the 8200 block of Lemon Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. for a report of a possible restraining order violation. Carzis was contacted by officers outside of an apartment complex.As part of an active restraining order, Carzis is ordered to stay 100 yards away from the protected party's address, police said. Officers found Carzis sitting outside of the residence.Last January, Carzis was captured on video allegedly committing a lewd act with a woman on the sidewalk outside his clothing store, Peter's Men's apparel on La Mesa Boulevard. The video was posted on a Facebook community page.When news crews returned to the area to speak with Carzis, he allegedly attacked news reporters and photographers who were attempting to interview him outside his business.Carzis has pleaded not guilty to felony vandalism charges and misdemeanor counts of battery and committing a lewd act in public. 1232
