As Chicago continues to grapple with gun violence, one jail is trying something different in an effort to combat the problem.The program is called SAVE, and it’s spearheaded by Sheriff Tom Dart of the Cook County Jail. The program aims to save a community from gun violence by targeting people who might be able to make the biggest difference.“We can continue with the broken model, make them worse than when they came in here, because they’ll be associated with other criminals, and then jettison them to a community where they’ll be a cancer, or we can take a person who has issues, break down what those issues are, address those, and now send them back to a community where now they’re sort of a light in the community,” Sheriff Dart explains. “They went from being the cancer to where they’re the one people are talking about.”During these classes, officials and inmates will start with a game. It helps to ease the tension in a room, where the men, who are in their late teens and early 20’s, are asked to dig deep on tough topics involving their personal lives.The program also aims to help the men manage anger and resolve conflict. It even trains on how to land a job or start a career.SAVE stands for the Sheriff’s Anti-Violence Effort.“The larger population we have here are folks that could actively have their trajectory changed if given different opportunities, different ways to look at life,” Sheriff Dart explains.The SAVE program is unique to Cook County, and it’s totally voluntary. It was created as a way to combat Chicago’s gun epidemic, by tackling the cognitive behavior of the men who, for whatever reason, ended up behind bars.“The reality is if you’re [going to] address these problems, you have to address the players in the system,” says Sheriff Dart. “The players all have individual issues, all have good things and bad things that they have.”For inmate Rico Potts, it’s helping him to realize his long-term goals.“Career wise, I wanna be a psychologist. I wanna talk to kids and help kids, because I feel like my story will kinda help them,” Potts says.He’s seeing firsthand how these instructors’ stories are helping him.The program stuck with former inmate Jelani Hines, who got out of jail but still keeps in touch with the program, saying it helped him land a job.“You have to be willing to commit,” Hines says. “Nobody’s gonna hold your hand.” 2393

ANAHEIM (CNS) - Disney officials informed Anaheim Wednesday that they have canceled plans for a 700-room luxury hotel at Disneyland Resort in light of the city's decision to scrub tax-incentive deals for the project.The Anaheim City Council voted Aug. 28 to cancel the tax-incentive deals because the project had changed over time, including a new location. An Atlanta police officer has been fired following the fatal shooting of a black man and a second officer was placed on administrative duty. The move announced by police early Sunday comes on the heels of the resignation of Atlanta's police chief following the killing of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks. Police identified the fired officer as Garrett Rolfe. Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she doesn’t believe the shooting was justified. "It has become abundantly clear that over the last couple weeks in Atlanta is that while we have a police force full of men and women who work alongside our communities with honor respect and dignity," Bottoms said, "there has been a disconnect with what our expectations are, and should be as it relates to interactions with our officers and the communities in which they are entrusted to protect."The Georgia Bureau of Investigation say Brooks resisted arrest after he failed a field sobriety test and a struggle ensued over a Taser. Police say 36 people were arrested at Saturday night protests. A Wendy's restaurant, which was the site of Brooks' death, was destroyed amid the unrest on Saturday.Police have released body camera and dash camera footage.The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that officers responded to a call of a man who fell asleep behind the wheel in a drive thru. The police accused Brooks of failing a field sobriety test.Police then claimed Brooks struggled with officers during the arrest. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said that officers then fired a Taser at Brooks.Eyewitnesses told investigators that Brooks then struggled with officers over the Taser, and that’s when Rolfe officer shot Brooks.Brooks was transported to the hospital, and he died during surgery.Atlanta has been the site of a number of large protests in recent weeks in the wake of the death of George Floyd. Floyd died on Memorial Day in police custody after a Minneapolis police officer held a knee against his neck for nearly nine minutes.The NAACP reacted to Saturday's shooting via Twitter."Stop urging the black community to be patient as our people are being gunned down by those sworn to 'protect and serve.' ANTIOCH, Tenn. — The Associated Press, CBS, and NBC News are reporting that federal investigators have been searching through the home of a possible person of interest in connection to the explosion that rocked downtown Nashville on Christmas morning.The AP reported that agencies were at a home in Antioch in suburban Nashville after receiving information regarding the investigation.According to CBS and NBC News, investigators searched the home of 63-year-old Anthony Quinn Warner.Scripps sister station in Nashville WTVF discovered just weeks ago - he signed over his longtime home to a 29-year old woman who lives in California.Property records show he sold her another house nearby a year earlier.We don't know much about Warner, other than the likely owned an alarm company during the 1990s.Law enforcement received more than 500 tips that led them to this home on Bakertown Road in Antioch.Marco Rodriguez lives in the same building as Warner. He said at around 10 a.m. on Saturday federal agents told him to evacuate."They came in and told us to get out just in case there was a bomb or something," Rodriguez said.Federal agents and metro police spent the day combing through Warner's home, making sure it was safe and looking for evidence.Neighbors tell me when police showed the picture of the RV that was used in the downtown bombing, they immediately recognized it."It was parked over there all the time," Rodriguez said, "It's weird because it could've been us if he wanted to like blow us up or the bomb could've malfunctioned."WTVF was able to dig up property assessment photos of the home. An undocumented immigrant was shot and killed Wednesday by a US Customs and Border Protection officer in Rio Bravo, Texas, according to a CBP news release.A Border Patrol agent responded to a report of illegal activity near a culvert and discovered a group of undocumented immigrants, the agency said.The agent tried to apprehend the group but he came under attack by multiple people using blunt objects. The agent fired at least one round, fatally wounding one person, CBP said.The names of the agent and the dead person have not been released, but a bystander video posted on Facebook said the latter was a woman.In the video, a woman yells at an officer: "Why are you mistreating them?
