SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Grossmont Union High School District is investigating an Instagram page reportedly used to rate female students. According to a spokesperson for the district, officials were recently alerted about the page’s existence, which reportedly rates the studnts based on certain features. Based on information shared with 10News, the posts rate young girls on looks and personality, among other categories. A parent within the district also posted in a Rancho San Diego neighborhood watch group on Facebook about the page. The parent said her daughter, who attends a different high school in the district, was told about the page via mutual friends. Read the district’s full statement below: 716

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Florida school shooting is conjuring painful memories for an uncle who calls his nephew the "14th Columbine victim.""You get choked up and then you're mad," said Tim Barnes.It was a flood of different emotions, as Barnes watched coverage of the tragedy in Florida.April 19th, 1999, as news broke about the massacre at Columbine High through frantic 911 calls, the San Diegan had his nephew Greg on his mind: A Columbine High student and one of the top basketball players in Colorado.Greg did survive the shootings, but one of his best friends did not. Greg was among several students who tried to keep the girl's basketball coach alive."From my understanding, he was holding Coach Sanders when he bled to death," said Barnes.Two months later, Barnes sat down with his nephew.    "Everything's cool. I'm good. I'm fine. Don't really want to talk about it. And that scared me. You could tell not everything was okay," said Barnes.Less than a year later, Greg took his own life. Next to him was a CD, looped to play a song with the words, "I'm too depressed to go on.""Just complete shock. Unbelievable, still unbelievable," said Barnes.So many years later, the grief is now accompanied by a determination to prevent a repeat of his family's tragedy.  For survivors, victims and others deeply impacted by school violence, he has this message: don't be afraid to get help and feel your pain."Feel it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Cabrillo National Monument will extend its opening hours until sunset on Fridays through Sundays in August.The national monument is currently in a phased re-opening. All outdoor areas, trails, and restrooms are open, but indoor areas like exhibits and the lighthouse are closed due to coronavirus restrictions.Normal operating hours for the area are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the tidepools closing at 4:30 p.m. The extended hours will give visitors a chance to take in views of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego during sunset. The monument's tidepool area will also be open until 30 minutes before sunset.Visitors can also get Junior Ranger books and badges, maps, and visitor information at an outdoor station near the visitor center.Officials encourage guests to continue wearing face coverings and physical distance from anyone no apart of their household while visiting.Annual park passes can still be purchased online here. A leadership and facilitation company, literally named "momentum," was training corporations around the world when the pandemic hit. And it was clear to financially survive they had to pivot.Jason and Deirdre Maloney created the MagicWrap because they felt the world could use some warmth right now.“There's certainly people who are feeling isolated, feeling alone. Everybody likes a hug," Deirdre Maloney says.And a hug is just what a friend needed. But, when they couldn't find the gift they were looking for, they created it and brought MagicWrap to the market.“There's a concept about a blanket that's about covering yourself, and that's not what we wanted. We wanted that warmth like someone had their arms around you," Jason Maloney said. It even comes with a personalized note, and a pocket to keep it in. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The fire on the USS Bonhomme Richard has impacted every sailor who works on the ship, but also those who live on the ship. To help, groups have stepped up to accept donations to give to the people who have been displaced. The Navy Life Naval Base San Diego Facebook page posted a warning to watch out for fake GoFundMe or charity request pages, and said the government is not allowed to accept donated funds to fix or replace the ship.Related: Crews battle USS Bonhomme Richard fire for fourth dayThe post highlighted three official groups to donate to who are safe and reliable: Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which is accepting online payments and mailed in checks to be donated to sailors,Support the Enlisted Project, which is accepting all types of donations, andUSO San Diego, which is also accepting all types of donations.Gillian Gonzalez, with the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, said more than 80 sailors lost all of their belongings in the fire. Her group immediately bought gift cards for sailors displaced and they’re working on replacing uniforms as well. She advises that people who make donations to their group specify that their donation should go to the USS Bonhomme Richard sailors directly.The USO office is taking every type of donation, from hygienic items to clothes. Executive Director Ashley Camac said they’ve taken loads of items to the ship every day since the fire started.“It might have been where they lived. It certainly is where they worked. So when you bring product to them and you bring toiletries to them and you bring essential needed items, there’s a smile that happens, there’s a sense of relief,” said Camac. 1682
