A Southwest Airlines plane flying from Fort Lauderdale to BWI was hit by a pickup truck after landing at the airport.  It happened early Monday morning.   Passengers said the white truck crashed into the side of the plane on the runway.  An ambulance was at the scene, but according to passengers, no one was injured.  Passengers were not allowed to leave while crews continued their investigation.  Southwest Airlines has not released any comment but the company did respond to a tweet from one of the passengers on the plane.  A passenger named Michael Simon posted this tweet: "So our southwest flight just got into an accident with a pickup truck. Guess that makes me an airplane crash survivor."  874

A two-year audit of Facebook's civil rights record found "serious setbacks" that have marred the social network's progress on matters such as hate speech, misinformation, and bias. The audit's leader, former American Civil Liberties Union executive Laura Murphy, was hired by Facebook in May 2018 to assess its performance on vital social issues. The final, 100-page report released Wednesday outlines a "seesaw of progress and setbacks" on everything from bias in Facebook's algorithms to content moderation, advertising practices, and voter suppression."The purpose of this Audit has always been to ensure that Facebook makes real and lasting progress on civil rights, and we do believe what’s listed below illustrates progress," Murphy said in the audit. "Facebook is in a different place than it was two years ago — some teams of employees are asking questions about civil rights issues and implications before launching policies and products. But as I’ve said throughout this process, this progress represents a start, not a destination. While the audit process has been meaningful and has led to some significant improvements in the platform, we have also watched the company make painful decisions over the last nine months with real-world consequences that are serious setbacks for civil rights."In a news release, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said that the release of the audit couldn't have come at a more important time. "Facebook stands firmly against hate," Sandberg said in the release. "Being a platform where everyone can make their voice heard is core to our mission, but that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable for people to spread hate. It’s not. We have clear policies against hate — and we strive constantly to get better and faster at enforcing them. A proposed state fund would pay rent for people on the brink of eviction to help them avoid homelessness.The 0 million fund is a key part of Gov. Gavin Newsom's budget proposal to address the state's homeless crisis. The fund, called the California Access to Housing and Services fund, could also be used to support the creation of more housing units and help stabilize board and care housing facilities. Newsom is proposing a .4 billion plan as part of his annual budget. Of that, 5 million would go to investments in Medi-Cal. The proposal also calls for the state using its own excess land for the site of new shelters. That includes open space near freeways, decommissioned hospitals and fairgrounds. The Del Mar Fairgrounds board has held preliminary discussions adding housing on the property. In San Diego County, excess property locations are also in downtown, El Cajon and Oceanside. An additional location deemed excess has instead been assigned to serve as a shelter for migrants seeking asylum. Jewish Family Service will operate the facility, and has requested the location not be disclosed due to security reasons. The current migrant shelter at the old family courthouse downtown at 6th and Cedar will close Dec. 31 for redevelopment. 1266

A non-profit organization announced its come up with a way to feed voters at several polling places across the nation for free on Election Day.World Central Kitchen kicked off their initiative last week with the announcement of its #ChefsforthePolls.They say people often cast their vote before work, during their lunch break, or after work, and those are the same time's people typically grab something to eat.And with long lines at polling stations, that could be the difference between voting and not voting, so they want to help make it a convenient experience for voters."WCK and our partners are activating #ChefsForThePolls to serve nourishing meals on early voting days and Election Day," the organization said on its website. "We'll be stationed by polling locations around the country, targeting those with historically long lines, predicted massive turnouts, or limited facilities, sharing meals with anyone – no questions asked.
