PARIS, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese delegation of human rights researchers on Friday had a detailed exchange of views on human rights issues with its French hosts during a four-day visit.     The delegation, led by Luo Haocai, vice chairman of the 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, provided a broad introduction to the great progress the People's Republic of China had achieved on human rights since its founding 60 years ago, especially over the 30-year period since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy.     The delegation expounded China's views and positions on human rights, and expressed its willingness to further promote exchanges and cooperation on human rights between the two countries.     During a meeting with Michel Forst, secretary general of the National Consultative Commission of Human Rights in France, Luo, also president of the China Society for Human Rights Studies (CSHRS), said human rights exchanges between China and France were to be deepened and extended as the two countries' friendship developed. The two sides could promote mutual understanding and broaden common ground in the communication process to better contribute to the world's human rights cause and world harmony.     Forst lauded China's human rights progress made concurrently with remarkable economic achievements, and said he was impressed by the universality and effectiveness of the work of the CSHRS.     Forst said he believed China would have much more influence in international human rights affairs along with the further promotion of its international status.     When talking with Pierre Bercis, president of New Human Rights League, Luo said China's theory and opinion of human rights was based on the principles of international human rights combined with China's own situation.     China stressed the unification of the universality and speciality of human rights, emphasized the right of survival and the right of development as the two basic human rights, encouraged equal communication and cooperation on international human rights, and opposed confrontation on human rights issues, Luo said. Pierre Bercis agreed with Luo's opinion.     While meeting Francis Verillaud, deputy president of Institute of political sciences of Paris, Luo hoped Chinese and French universities could strengthen exchanges and cooperation on human rights research, especially on human rights law, as a comprehensive law was the basis of human rights protection.     After the visit to France, the Chinese delegation will visit Belgium, the EU headquarters and Iceland.

HAVANA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday visited Fidel Castro, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, in Havana, a source with the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) confirmed.     The two leaders had a two-hour conversation in a sincere and friendly atmosphere on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern, the source added.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), spoke highly of the China-Cuba relationship, according to a NPC press release.     Bilateral relationship between China and Cuba is at its best time in history, Wu said, adding that China would strive to push its relations with Cuba to a new high by continuously expanding their friendly cooperation in various fields.     Castro said Cuba closely follows China's economic and social development and feels proud when China scores new achievements.     China's success is of special significance for Cuba and all the developing nations, he added.     "The Cuban people, along with the Chinese people, will continue to support each other, work closely and intensify their cooperation with the aim to maintain world peace and realize common development," the press release quoted Castro as saying.     On China's efforts to curb the global financial crisis, Wu said China is actively participating in international cooperation while striving to maintain a steady and relatively fast economic growth.     He said developing countries should have a greater representation and a bigger say in endeavor to deal with the global financial crisis and reform the global financial system.     He also urged the international community to try to minimize the damage the current crisis inflicts on the developing nations, especially on the most underdeveloped ones.     Wu arrived in Havana on Tuesday at the invitation of Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, president of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power (CNAPP).     Cuba is the first leg of Wu's three-nation American tour, which will also take him to the Bahamas and the United States.     China established diplomatic relations with Cuba on Sept. 28, 1960. FRANKFURT, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- China hopes for early resumption of the international talks on Iranian nuclear issue, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei said in Frankfurt on Wednesday.     He made the remarks when he attended the six-nation meeting on the Iranian nuclear issue in Frankfurt. Vice foreign ministers from UN Security Council's five permanent members -- the United States, China, Russia, Britain and France, plus Germany met in Frankfurt on Wednesday, aiming to explore the solutions to tackle the thorny issue one day after Tehran said it would table a new package of proposals on the issue.     China welcomes Iran's "positive remarks" on seeking dialogue and negotiation on the nuclear issue, He was quoted as saying by a press release issued by the Chinese delegation, adding that China also appreciates the progress of the cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).     Last week, the IAEA, a UN nuclear watchdog, issued a report saying Iran has slowed production of enriched uranium and agreed to tighter monitoring of its enrichment plant.     The Chinese vice minister said China hopes that various sides to take advantage of the current favorable chances and to exert more diplomatic efforts to resume the international talks on the issue as soon as possible, so as to seek a comprehensive and long-term solution for the issue.     According to Chinese diplomats, Mr. He also met his Russian and U.S. counterparts Sergy Ryabkov and Nicholas Burns at the intervals of the meeting, exchanging views on the Iranian nuclear issue and other international issues of common concern.
