WUXI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Liu Yunshan Friday urged more efforts to expand the ranks of volunteers and optimize the system for volunteering.Liu, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the call in a letter of congratulations to a national seminar on volunteer work held in Wuxi city, east China's Jiangsu Province, Friday.A well-developed volunteer system could bring about a friendly social atmosphere and harmonious social relationships, the letter said.A statement released after the seminar, held jointly by the Publicity Department and the Civilization Office of the CPC Central Committee, said it was attended by officials from central ministries and civilization work offices of provinces and municipalities.It did not provide the names or the number of the participants.

TORONTO, Canada, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao visited an aircraft manufacturing facility on Saturday morning, in a gesture to show that China attaches importance to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Canada.Bombardier, a Canada-based global manufacturer of planes and trains, has cooperation projects with China in the areas of civil aviation and rail transportation.It has been working with the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) of China to jointly develop and manufacture the innovative C series of airplanes.Hu toured the factory to have a close look at the components of the Q400 aircraft, which was partly manufactured in Shenyang. HONG KONG, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Air China, China's leading carrier listed in Hong Kong, said late Friday that it would pay 1. 3 98 billion U.S. dollars to buy 20 Boeing 737-800 planes.In a statement filed to the HK stock exchange, the carrier said the cost would be "payable by cash in installments" and it would " take delivery of the Boeing Aircraft in stages from 2013 to 2015"."The aircraft price is subject to price escalation by applying a formula. Boeing Company has granted to the Company (Air China) significant price concessions with regard to the Boeing Aircraft," said the statement.The transaction will be funded through cash generated from Air China's business operations, commercial bank loans and other financing instruments of Air China, said the statement.The Beijing-based airlines said the transaction would expand its fleet capacity with an increase of around 5 percent based on available tonne kilometers of Air China by the end of 2009.In particular, the deal would reinforce Air China's market share in the Chinese domestic market, and would also increase frequency of flights for a number of domestic and neighboring international routes, it added.By the end of September last year. Air China owned 256 passenger planes, mostly Boeing and Airbus. It operated 250 routes covering 32 countries and regions worldwide. It currently has another 130 or so planes in several orders.
BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislature will discuss the constitutional reform package of Hong Kong, which refers to the amendments to the methods of selecting the city's Chief Executive and forming the Legislative Council in 2012, during a bimonthly session scheduled from Aug. 23 to 28.The draft amendments to Annexes I to the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region concerning the methods for the selection of the Chief Executive was submitted to the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee for approval by Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang.The draft amendments to Annexes II concerning the formation of the city's Legislative Council was submitted to the NPC Standing Committee for the record.The Legislative Council of Hong Kong passed the draft amendments in June, before Donald Tsang gave his consent to draft amendments later in the month.According to Monday's Chairmen's Council of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over by NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo, lawmakers will also continue to deliberate draft amendments to the law on officers in reserve service, the draft law on mediation, as well as the draft law on the application of laws to civil relationships involving foreign interests.Lawmakers will also deliberate for the first time draft amendments to the law of deputies to the NPC and local People's Congresses, draft amendments to the Criminal Law, the draft law on intangible cultural heritages, and the draft revision of the soil and water conservation law.Also on the agenda of the upcoming session are discussions of the reports on implementation of the national economic and social development plan and budgets, among others.
