BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday encouraged young Chinese students to dedicate their lives to the people and bind their own destinies with that of the nation.     Wen made the call at a symposium with some 100 students of the prestigious Tsinghua University, who have chosen to work in China's less-developed western regions or at the grassroots level after graduation.     Wen's Tsinghua tour marked his annual visit to university campuses since 2003 ahead of the Chinese Youth Day, which falls on Monday this year. "The love and devotion to the people is the most lofty part of human morals," said he.     Wen praised Zou Shenglan and Yan Weilong after learning they had volunteered to work in Tibetan villages.     He told them to be prepared for the hardship in rural areas. "I believe after being tempered at the grassroots level in Tibet, you'll become more mature," he said. "And when you look back at that part of experience in the future, you'll have no regret."     "I want you all to be well-educated people with moral integrity and work ability, and be of use to the people," Wen said before concluding the discussion, followed by having lunch with the students at their dinning hall. TASHKENT, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said on Sunday that China is willing to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan on wide-ranging issues while meeting with Uzbek President Islam Karimov.     "Uzbekistan, as a country with important influence in central Asia, plays a major role in regional affairs, and developing a friendly partnership with Uzbekistan is one of the priorities of China's foreign policy," said Li.     "China is willing to work together with Uzbekistan to constantly solidify the friendship and political trust between the two countries, make efforts to expand pragmatic bilateral cooperation in all fields, and increase exchanges in culture, education, health and sports," he added. SHANGHAI, July 12 (Xinhua) -- China Eastern Airlines on late Sunday announced that it will merge Shanghai Airlines through a shares swap and the two will resume stock trading in Shanghai Monday.     Shanghai Airlines will exchange one of its A shares for 1.3 shares of China Eastern after the former's shareholders are given a 25 percent risk premium, the latter said in a statement filed to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.     Shanghai Airlines Chairman Zhou Chi said on June 30 that the transfer of shares will take about four to five months.     Liu Jiangbo, spokesman of the working team overseeing tie-up affairs, said Shanghai Airlines will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Eastern and retain its brand and independent operation.     Liu told Xinhua that the merger has entered a concrete stage after the announcement of the detailed merger plan.     This is a major step to promote the consolidation of regional airlines and to facilitate building Shanghai into an international air and shipping hub, he said.     The merger will give China Eastern, one of China's three state-owned airlines, about 50 percent market share in Shanghai.     China Eastern reported a net loss of 13.9 billion yuan in 2008 because of weak travel demand in the economic downturn and wrong-way bets on fuel prices.     China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines shares have been suspended from trading since June 8 while waiting for the merger talks. China Eastern last closed at 5.33 yuan and Shanghai Airlines closed at 5.92 yuan.     China Eastern is listed in Hong Kong and Shanghai and Shanghai Airlines is listed in Shanghai.
