'Horse Museum' is the latest book by Dr. Seuss, launched Tuesday at UC San Diego's Geisel Library. The library sold copies of the book at a launch party in the Seuss room Tuesday. The book is about art, and helps kids of all sizes learn about art and museums. Lynda Claassen, the Director of Special Collections and Archives for the Geisel Library says the book is a treasure, found in a box by Audrey Geisel, Theodor's widow, in 2013. It was not a full book she discovered, merely a manuscript with storyboard pages. Using that manuscript, illustrator Andrew Joyner finished Seuss' work. Inside the book, there is horse artwork from greats like Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollack, as well as cameo appearances by familiar characters like the Cat in the Hat. And Claassen promises it won't be the last: "there is more to come. There is always more." Theodor Geisel died in 1991, and there have been other posthumous works published, including 2015's 'What Pet Should I Get?'His wife Audrey died in December 2018. HAVRE, Mont. (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are reviewing an encounter between a Border Patrol agent and two women who were speaking Spanish at a gas station in northern Montana, the agency said Monday.The women, who are U.S. citizens, said the agent detained them for about 35 minutes Wednesday in Havre, a small city about 30 miles from the U.S.-Canada border. One of the women, Ana Suda, asked the agent why he asked for their identifications."I recorded him admitting that he just stop(ped) us because we (were) speaking Spanish, no other reason," Suda wrote in a Facebook post published early Wednesday. "Remember do NOT speak Spanish sounds like is illegal."Neither Suda nor her friend, Mimi Hernandez, answered their cellphones or responded to text messages on Monday. In Suda's video of the encounter, posted by KRTV of Great Falls, the agent says speaking Spanish "is very unheard of up here."Customs and Border Protection spokesman Jason Givens declined to answer questions about the incident. He released a statement that said the incident is being reviewed to ensure that all appropriate policies were followed."Although most Border Patrol work is conducted in the immediate border area, agents have broad law enforcement authorities and are not limited to a specific geography within the United States," the statement said. "They have the authority to question individuals, make arrests, and take and consider evidence."Border Patrol agents are authorized by law to make warrantless stops within a "reasonable distance" from the border — defined as 100 miles (160 kilometers) under federal regulations. That broad authority has led to complaints of racial profiling by agents who board buses and trains and stop people at highway checkpoints.Havre, which has just under 10,000 residents and is near two Native American reservations, has a mostly white population, with just 4 percent Hispanic, according to the U.S. Census.It is typically a quiet posting for the Border Patrol. Last year, the 183 agents in the Havre sector made 39 arrests — just .01 percent of the 310,531 arrests made nationwide made by Border Patrol agents. Eleven of those 39 people arrested were Mexican.Last week's confrontation happened within a day of the posting of another video showing a New York attorney ranting against Spanish speaking restaurant workers and threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement to have them "kicked out of my country."Allegations have been made before of law-enforcement officers in Montana racially profiling people to find out their immigration status. (AP) — A woman trying to protect her dog was killed by an alligator who pulled her into a lagoon at a private South Carolina resort Monday, authorities said.Cassandra Cline, 45, of Hilton Head Island, was walking the dog along a residential area of Sea Pines Resort when she was attacked, state and local officials said. The 8-foot (2.5-meter) alligator was later found and killed, said David Lucas, a spokesman for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources."She was walking the dog near the lagoon and the alligator came out of the water and tried to get the dog," Lucas said. "The lady tried to rescue the dog and a maintenance worker ran over to help."Both were trying to save the dog, but the alligator dragged the woman into the water, he said.The dog was unharmed."It's common practice when we have an aggressive alligator like that, we put it down, but it will take some take some time to confirm it's the right alligator," said Capt. Robert McCullough of the Department of Natural Resources.Alligator attacks on humans are extremely rare, Lucas said.Since 1976, there have only been about 20 attacks on people in the state, he said. Until 2016, none of those attacks had been fatal. In 2016, a 90-year-old woman wandered away from a Charleston assisted living facility and was found dead in a pond.Blake Smith, 34, was leaving his house Monday morning when he saw police cars and firetrucks in the neighborhood."I waited for about 30 minutes, then I started hearing rumors about what happened down the road from here," Smith told The Island Packet newspaper. "It's odd because this is the first time we've heard about an aggressive alligator around a human in the five years that we've been living here."Smith said that at times, alligators have been spotted in yards or pools, but Sea Pines quickly removed those animals."They do a good job. This is just a sad incident," he said. "I have a young son, so it's kind of concerning to see something like this could happen."Sea Pines said in a statement that it's working with authorities "to ensure necessary access to the site while the investigation is underway."The Sea Pines Resort is in the southern third of Hilton Head Island, located along 5,000 oceanfront acres (2,023 hectares), its website says. 2314

From making snow angels to picking snowball fights with your friends, playing in the snow can be a lot of fun.But one Colorado town didn't think so. In Severance, a town about 60 miles north of Denver, it's long been illegal to throw snowballs.Dane Best, 9, thought the law was "silly." The young town resident might have even broken it once in a while.So with the help of his classmates, Best decided to take it upon himself to change the law. He collected letters and signatures in support of snowball fights, did some research and presented his case at a Severance Town Council meeting on Monday."It is an outdated law," Best told council members, according to CNN affiliate KCNC. "And I want to throw a snowball without getting in trouble."Now he can, after the council unanimously approved a measure to legalize throwing snowballs within town limits.Mayor Don McLeod told CNN that the law was part of a more elaborate ordinance, Sec. 10-5-80, that said, "It is unlawful for any person to throw or shoot any stone or any other missile upon or at any person, animal, building, tree or other public or private property; or at or against any vehicle or equipment design for the transportation of persons or property."When Dane and his classmates visited town hall this fall on a field trip, McLeod pointed out that the law -- although it's not enforced -- would include throwing snowballs at people."The kids were super intrigued when they found out they have been breaking the law this whole time," the mayor told CNN."Every year when the kiddos come to town hall, I point out little laws we have, and I challenge these third-graders to change them. Dane was the first student to take me up on this, and I'm very proud that he did."After winning his argument, Dane was given the town's first legal snowball to throw in celebration. His parents couldn't be more excited."We are proud of him for taking initiative to make some change, no matter how small it may be," Derrick Best, Dane's father, told KCNC. According to KCNC, another current town law allows a maximum of three pets per household and only includes cats and dogs.
