DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) - Images of an extra-large mystery cat have opened a lot of eyes in East San Diego County community of Descanso.Off Viejas Grade Road, a wildlife camera on the land of Allen Walker's neighbor captured the video one evening last week.  It shows a large cat walking along a trail not far from homes.  Bobcats are routinely filmed by the camera, but Walker says this one appeared twice as big as the typical one."Little afraid for my corgis, because it would be breakfast or lunch ... I was pretty shocked about its size.  It's the biggest cat I've seen out here that's not a mountain lion," said Walker.We sent the image to SDSU research scientist Megan Jennings, who has studied the local bobcat population.  She confirmed the cat is in fact a bobcat - and a near-doubling in size would be highly unusual.  She says any extra-large bobcat is likely a male who has stumbled onto a steady food source. Democratic lawmakers are calling for Congress to rein in Big Tech, possibly forcing Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple to sever their dominant platforms from their other lines of business and imposing new uniformity on the terms they offer users. The proposals in a report issued Tuesday follow an investigation by a House Judiciary Committee panel into the companies’ market dominance. Those kinds of forced breakups through a legislative overhaul would be a radical step for Congress to take toward a powerful industry that has come under intensifying scrutiny over issues of competition, consumer privacy and hate speech."To put it simply, companies that once were scrappy, underdog startups that challenged the status quo have become the kinds of monopolies we last saw in the era of oil barons and railroad tycoons," the committee's report reads. "Although these firms have delivered clear benefits to society, the dominance of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google has come at a price. Denver Broncos starting running back Melvin Gordon was charged with a DUI and speeding of 25-39 mph over the limit Tuesday night in downtown Denver, according to court records.“We are aware of the situation involving Melvin Gordon. Our organization has been in communication with him and is in the process of gathering more details,” the team said in a statement on Wednesday.Gordon, 27, was cited at 5th Avenue and Speer Blvd., according to court records. Based on NFL precedent, he is facing a likely 2-to-3 game suspension. (KGTV) -- Sixth-graders frolicked in the snow in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park Thursday, thrilled to learn about science."We're trying to take what they're learning in school and making it come alive," Principal of Cuyamaca Outdoor School Greg Schuett said. The kids come for a full school week, but the classes are unlike any these students have attended before."Last time my group went on a hike we saw something with erosion! So like what happened is the rain because of one day of rain it split one part of land into two parts," a sixth-grader said excitedly.Schuett said the students go on nature hikes. Some students see wildlife like coyotes, deer and turkeys for the first time.RELATED: Complete coverage of California's winter storms"We are a science camp we are teaching kids how life functions on earth," Schuett said.Some students have already taken the lessons to heart, making them think of future career paths in the sciences. DENVER – Shanann Watts’ family has sued Chris Watts to try and keep him from ever profiting off the deaths of their daughter or granddaughters.The lawsuit when Watts was sentenced to life in prison without parole, is a wrongful death claim intended to help the family recoup funeral expenses, the loss of Shanann’s future income and give them compensation for ongoing emotional distress stemming from the killings of Shanann, her daughters Bella and Celeste, and her unborn child.The family’s attorneys say that the family and Shanann’s estate are entitled to economic and non-economic damages under Colorado law, and the lawsuit asks that the family be able to amend the claims in the future. That will likely amount to thousands of dollars in restitution, District Attorney Michael Rourke said last week.One of the family’s attorneys, Steven Lambert, said last week that the point of the suit was to keep Watts from profiting off the case in the future should he write a book or try and get money from the sale of their house.“He cannot profit from any inheritance that he would normally receive from Shanann,” Lambert said. “On top of that, any proceed that he might derive from a sale of a book – he would not be able to keep any of that. Also, any assets that he might receive once we get a judgment from the court, we can file any liens and get things like that on any assets from here into the future.”The lawsuit says that Shanann’s father, Frank Rzucek, is also entitled to similar claims because Watts pleaded guilty to unlawful termination of a pregnancy for killing his and Shanann’s unborn child, whom the family called Nico.Watts pleaded guilty to nine counts in the case and received three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, in addition to several more consecutive and concurrent sentences for other counts.He was transferred this week to a Denver facility to undergo mental and medical evaluations before he is sent to prison. 1982
