CINCINNATI, Ohio — Depending on the number of children in your family, the cost of back-to-school shopping can range from just expensive to absolutely mind-boggling. For teachers, who might have to provide supplies and prepare classrooms for more than 20 students, it's even more significant."We know that every year, teachers will spend anywhere from 0 to 00 of money from their own pocket," Crayons to Computers CEO Amy Cheney said. Some, such as art teachers who buy their own supplies, spend even more. That's why Cheney's organization works to help take the edge off the high price of providing a good education by allowing teachers at qualifying schools to "shop" in rows of school supplies they can pick up for free."(I save) thousands," art teacher Judith Lamb, who used to buy all of her students' art supplies out of pocket, said. "Every time I come here and they add it up, it's ,000 at least for every shopping trip."Teachers who qualify for the program are those who work at schools where at least 60 percent of the student body qualifies for free and reduced lunch.Watch the video above to learn more — and see how happy teachers are to get a little help creating awesome classrooms. 1212

CVS hears the Amazon footsteps -- and the pharmacy giant is wasting no time trying to get ahead of any Jeff Bezos plan to disrupt the drug store business the way that he has the rest of retail.CVS said Monday that it plans to offer next day delivery of prescription drugs nationwide in 2018. In some urban markets, CVS will even deliver on the same day.A program to deliver both medications and a select offering of other CVS products from the front of the store will begin in Manhattan on December 4.CVS CEO Larry Merlo made the announcements during the company's earnings conference call with analysts. The news comes just a few weeks after reports surfaced that Amazon had received wholesale pharmacy licenses in a dozen states. That move would potentially allow Amazon to sell prescription medications online. The speculation caused the shares of CVS and rival Walgreens to fall, as did pharmacy benefits manager company Express Scripts, a competitor of the CVS-owned PBM Caremark. The stocks of drug distributors Cardinal Health, AmerisourceBergen and McKesson all fell too. This is because investors are worried that Amazon, which is already changing the dynamics of the grocery business thanks to its acquisition of Whole Foods, may look to do the same for drug stores. But Merlo said during the call with analysts Monday that he still sees Amazon as more of a potential ally than threat."You would never close the door on any type of partnership," Merlo said, when asked by an analyst about possibly working with Amazon.Still, CVS seems to recognize that the health care landscape is changing rapidly, and it needs to adjust. There have even been recent rumors that CVS may look to buy health insurer Aetna.Aetna scrapped plans to merge with rival Humana earlier this year due to intense regulatory scrutiny. Another insurer merger proposed by Anthem and Cigna died as well.Since then, the lines between health insurers and the pharmacy giants have grown increasingly blurred and incestuous.Anthem recently started up its own PBM, called IngenioRX, and has partnered with CVS.And Walgreens has partnered with a Blue Cross-backed PBM Prime Therapeutics to form a new mail order pharmacy company.Merlo and other CVS executives did not address any of the Aetna chatter on the conference call. But if the rumors are true -- and if an Aetna deal passed antitrust scrutiny -- then CVS appears to be on its way towards building a formidable health care/retail giant that may avoid getting Amazon-ed.  2507

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Coronado residents heard a plan from the Port of San Diego Monday night that would allow for 350 new hotel rooms to be built on the island. Those who showed up were not happy.“Most of the residents don’t want this development to happen,” said resident Kelly Sarber. “The city can’t really handle what we're dealing with right now,” she added, referring to the island’s notorious traffic. The new proposal is part of an update to the Port’s master plan, which includes 2,403 acres of land across 34 miles of waterfront around San Diego Bay.In Coronado, the new master plan would allow for 350 hotel rooms to be built in the north Coronado subdistrict, which includes the Ferry Landing and the area occupied by the existing Marriot Hotel.“What this plan sets out is potential growth for next 30 years,” said Lesley Nishihira, planning director for the Port. She said currently they have not received a plan from a developer to actually build a hotel on the Ferry Landing property. However, if approved, the updated master plan would allow for one to be built eventually. Though, any project proposal would also have to go through a public review period. The comment period for the Master Plan draft goes through July 31. Comments can be emailed to the Port of San Diego at PMPU@portofsandiego.org. Final approval of the plan isn’t expected until late 2020. 1384
