Politics can get personal.“I’ve been amazed the last two weeks at how mean people can be," said Pennsylvania voter Kim Vettel. "And it's not just from one political side, it’s everywhere.”Vettel knows just how personal political talk can get."It's been tense for everyone," she said. "It's been heartbreaking, losing friends realizing family members feel different than you but you didn't realize before."Vettel doesn't hide where she stands, there is a Biden sign in the front yard of her home about an hour from Pittsburgh. She lives in a neighborhood where few feel the same way she does about this election.“I’m not embarrassed at all for who I voted for," Vettel said.Vettel also isn’t hiding that the 2020 election is the first time in her life that she has voted. She is 42 years old.“I never been into politics. I didn’t really grow up in a family where it was as big deal," Vettel said. "I can’t remember anyone in my family, in particular, going to vote when I was younger.”The reason for her change? It's personal."My oldest daughter is gay," Vettel said.“My rights as someone who is out as a lesbian," said Vettel's 18-year-old daughter, Haylee Tucker.Tucker displays her first "I voted" sticker on the back of her phone.“They’re doing their research. They’re trying their hardest to do what’s right for everybody. They’re sick of continuing to grow up and have to be adults in it," she said of the many people her age also voting for the first time this election. This isn't the first election where it's been hard to predict what Keystone State voters will do.“The message that came out to residents in Pennsylvania is you’re going to decide the election," Claudia Raymer said.Raymer isn’t a first-time voter, but she’s already thinking to 2024, when her son, Alex, will be able to cast his first ballot.“I don’t vote just based Democrat or Republican. I vote with whatever one seems best," Raymer’s son said. While he can't vote in this election knows its importance."To see him see the value in voting, I feel like I'm doing something right," said Raymer.Alex is also aware not everyone uses their power to vote."It may seem like it doesn’t matter in the long run, but it does," he said. "It is your voice, and you can do whatever you want with it, so it's important it's heard."Voting is an importance not lost on first-time voters like Kim Vettel, who hopes as we move forward, we can look for what is personal to people beyond politics.“My next-door neighbors are Trump supporters, and we love them, they are amazing people, they treat us like family, and just because of who they vote for doesn’t change my thoughts of them," Vettel said. 2664

President Donald Trump decried the Supreme Court's decision to block his plan to end DACA on Thursday, calling the ruling "horrible & politically charged."Trump added that recent decisions by the Supreme Court are "shotgun blasts into the face of people that are proud to call themselves Republicans or Conservatives."Conservatives currently hold a 5-4 majority on the Supreme Court."Do you get the impression that the Supreme Court doesn't like me?" Trump tweeted minutes later. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court ruled against Trump's plan to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA. President Barack Obama established the program in 2012 when lawmakers could not reach a compromise on immigration reform. The program allows more than 500,000 undocumented immigrants to continue working in the United States. In September 2017, Trump announced he planned to end the program after a six-month delay. Several lawsuits were filed against the action, keeping the program running. The decision came days after the Court ruled that employees could not be fired or disciplined for their sexual orientation under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. 1149

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - The Jewish community of Poway dedicated a Torah scroll in memory of Lori Kaye, who was killed in the deadly shooting at the Chabad of Poway Synagogue. The dedication ceremony took place inside the Synagogue Wednesday evening, where Kaye was shot and killed. The April 27th anti-Semitic attack injured three other people worshiping on the last day of Passover. The Torah considered Judaism's most sacred object. It is sponsored by the Jaffa Family Foundation of New York, Cleveland, and Minneapolis. Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein described Kaye as a kind and generous soul. "Her legacy is going to continue through this Torah scroll," Goldstein said, motioning to one they dedicated to her. "And every Saturday we take it out, everyone touches it and kisses it, it's like blowing a kiss to Lori in heaven, remembering her forever and ever." A procession with music and dancing followed the ceremony. 930

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — Poway developer Kevin McNamara is hoping to convince residents to support a new plan to add 160 homes to the property which was formerly the Stoneridge Country Club. The golf course was closed after a previous development plan was defeated by voters in 2017.McNamara calls his development "The Farms at Stoneridge." It has an agricultural theme, including hiking trails, parks, community gardens, a butterfly farm, and an amphitheater for public performances. The property is owned by real estate mogul Michael Schlesinger. His 2017 campaign to replace a portion of the golf course with condos was rejected by Poway voters. Schlesinger shut down the course the next morning.McNamara tells 10News he has negotiated an option to buy the land from Schlesinger, dependent on his ability to get city and voter approval on the new plan. He says it is important for a local developer to take over the property. "I've been involved in almost everything that's gone on in this city for 20-plus years. I like to think I can be trusted," McNamara said. Some residents have held out hope the City of Poway would take over the land to re-open the golf course. However, McNamara says the city has no interest, as projections suggest an annual 0,000 loss. Other residents want the land to remain undeveloped open space, but McNamara says the fire department would consider that to be a fire hazard."It's a hard choice for a lot of people and I understand that. But I'm their best option. I'm the best option they're ever going to have," he said.McNamara is hosting a public forum Wednesday night from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Painted Rock Elementary. He will submit his final plan to the city by the end of December. McNamara anticipates that 2019 will be spent working on the environmental impact study, followed by a city council vote in the spring of 2020. The ultimate goal is to let voters decide on the 2020 ballot. 1939

President Donald Trump is criticizing NASCAR for banning the Confederate flag at its races and is going after its only Black driver. After a weekend spent stoking division, Trump wrongly accused Bubba Wallace of perpetrating “a hoax” after one of his crew members discovered a rope shaped like a noose in a garage stall. Federal authorities ruled last month that the rope had been hanging there since at least last October and was not a hate crime. 457
