DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) — Life at the Del Mar Fairgrounds could look much different in the future, finding uses for more than horse racing and the county fair.Tuesday night will be the second of three community meetings, in which the fairgrounds will ask the community for input on what the future of the venue should look like.Del Mar Deputy Mayor Terry Gaasterland said the uses can fulfill several regional desires."We also have a responsibility for working with Solana Beach and San Diego and the entire region," Gaasterland said. "How does this fairgrounds meet not just the needs, but the wishes and the wants and the dreams of the San Diego region?"And things are already changing. The Surf Side Race Place is being transformed into an entertainment venue. KAABOO left Del Mar for downtown last year. This year, will be mark the end of fairgrounds gun show. And racing has seen a decline in revenue and attendance."Can the fairgrounds be a leader in doing the racing? Well, that's going to be a real challenge for the fairgrounds," Gaasterland said.Gaasterland would like to see affordable housing and hopes a planned rail stop at the fairgrounds would eliminate the need for parking.A fairgrounds spokesperson says once all three meetings are done feedback from the community will be compiled and presented to the board for consideration. 1353

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden addressed the ongoing civil unrest throughout the country, denounced looting and rioting and placed the blame for the ongoing incidents on President Donald Trump."Does anyone believe there will be less violence in America if Donald Trump is re-elected?" Biden said from Pittsburgh on Monday.Biden accused the president of "stoking violence in our cities," all while using the threat of that violence to fuel his re-election campaign. He claimed that Trump is using the current spat of civil unrest throughout the country as a "political lifeline.""Donald Trump failed to protect America, so now he's trying to scare America," Biden said.Biden also condemned "violence of every kind by anyone, whether on the left or the right," and challenged Trump to do the same."Rioting is not protesting, looting is not protesting, setting fires is not protesting," Biden said, later adding that anyone caught doing so should be arrested prosecuted. In recent weeks, Trump has accused Biden of supporting rioting and looting, which has occurred sporadically throughout months-long protests against police brutality. During the Republican National Convention last week, speakers attempted to tie Biden to looting and riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin and in Portland."When is Slow Joe Biden going to criticize the Anarchists, Thugs & Agitators in ANTIFA?," Trump tweeted on Sunday evening. 1422

DENVER, Colo. — Voters in Denver, Colorado, overwhelmingly voted to pass Ballot Measure 2J to lift the cities more than 30 years old ban on pit bulls.Ballot Measure 2J passed with 64.5% voting to lift the ban and 35.5% voting to keep the ban in place.Passing the measure will allow the city to grant a provisional permit to pit bull owners as long as the owner microchips the animal and complies with additional requirements set by Denver Animal Protection.Denver Council member Christopher Herndon led the charge, proposing the idea to lift the pit bull ban in January.Denver City Council voted 7-4 to repeal the ban in February, which would have replaced the law with what could be best described as a “probation” for pit bulls. However, Mayor Hancock vetoed the ordinance just days later, saying in a letter he could not support the legislation because it did not, "fully addresses the very real risk to a severe injury that can result from attacks from these particular dog breeds, especially should they happen to a child."The law banning pit bulls was put in place in 1989 after 20 people had been attacked by pit bulls in the previous five years. One was a 3-year old who died from the attack in 1986. Hancock argued in his letter to the council that less than 20% of all pets in Denver are currently licensed, which "raises significant questions about the effectiveness of this proposed new system."Proponents said breed-specific bans do not work and enforcing the ban has cost the City of Denver more than .8 million.Aurora, Lone Tree, Louisville, and Commerce City still have bans on pit bulls, though Castle Rock repealed their ban in 2018. The Aurora City Council discussed breed restrictions in August but tabled the issue. This story was first reported by Blayke Roznowski at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 1823
