SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Father’s Day boat trip off the San Diego coast led to a rare wakeboarding encounter with dozens of dolphins for a Pacific Beach boy and his family. “It was a quick little boat ride and we saw paradise up there,” said Emiliano Gallego of Crown Point. Gallego and his three children decided to take a boat ride about 7:30 a.m. on a gloomy Sunday. They were about a mile off Pacific Beach when they realized their 24-foot Yamaha ski boat was surrounded by dolphins. “It was impressive,” said Gallego, who believes there were thousands of dolphins swimming with the pod. Gallego’s 9-year-old son Demi, an avid wakeboarder, grabbed his gear and jumped in the water. Gallego recorded the incredible scene. “At first, he was scared. He eventually just started enjoying the ride with the dolphins,” Gallego said. Gallego’s younger son and daughter didn’t want to jump in. “Too many dolphins,” said Gallego. After the spectacular ride, the family went out to breakfast, amazed at what they saw. “That was the best gift ever,” said Gallego. 1059

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego City Council members called Wednesday on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and District Attorney Summer Stephan to investigate San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott's possible role in an alleged child sexual abuse cover-up at the San Diego Junior Theatre.Council members Scott Sherman and Vivian Moreno sent a jointly written letter to Becerra and Stephan imploring them to investigate allegations made by attorney Matt Valenti that Elliott improperly shared information on the case with then-Junior Theatre Board member Gil Cabrera, who Valenti claims tried to silence the case's whistleblowers."We are writing to respectfully request your respective offices' review and consideration for appropriate action, as the authority to investigate these complaints falls under the jurisdiction of your departments," their letter states. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A first of it's kind scholarship is up for the taking for female high school seniors pursuing a college sports career.Solana Beach athletics wear company, HYLETE, calls it their "GRACEDBYGRIT" scholarship."We all experience these gritty moments in our lives and those gritty moments are what define us, they give us our strength and it's what you do with those gritty moments that gives you your grace," Vice President of HYLETE Kate Nowlan said.Nowlan played Softball and swam in high school. She said sports have a huge impact on young women, "they have a greater chance of success professionally but also their self confidence is higher."A 2014 Ernst & Young and espnW study found 52% of female executives played sports in college. "This is one small way we can contribute to someone's success," Nowlan said, referring to the ,000 scholarship they're awarding for the first time.High school seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be pursuing college sports and have a story of overcoming adversity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire destroyed an abandoned building in Barrio Logan early Wednesday morning, but no injuries were reported.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, crews were called to the structure fire in the 3500 block of Dalbergia Street at around 2:50 a.m.By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had already consumed much of the building. It took at least an hour to stop the fire from spreading.A deputy fire chief at the scene told 10News that crews have battled fires at this same address multiple times in the past.10News learned a fire occurred at the same location on April 14, and before that on Dec. 26, 2019.Additionally, on Oct. 25, 2019, a fire erupted inside of the same building; a trash can fire was reported on the property six days earlier.The cause of Wednesday’s fire is under investigation, and there is no immediate word on whether the fire is somehow connected to any of the previous incidents. No injuries were reported in any of those incidents.No one was inside at the time of Wednesday's fire. 1053

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at cemeteries around the county Saturday to honor the military veterans buried there.The ceremonies are part of the larger Wreaths Across America project.More than 1,000 cemeteries across the country participated, including Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. According to Wreaths Across America, the events are an effort to preserve the memory of military veterans and teach children about the sacrifices they make and have made."Each and every wreath is a gift from an appreciative person or family who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy," said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester.
