Nichols Fountain and in Mill Creek Park, which is located just east of the Country Club Plaza, should be changed.Nor is there a timeline for considering any possible changes.Parks Board Commissioner Chris Goode proposed renaming the J.C. Parkway, which runs between the Plaza and the park north from West 47th Street to West 43rd Street, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a June 9 commission meeting.He also proposed renaming the fountain to Dream Fountain, a nod to King’s famed “I Have A Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.Several major Kansas City-area civic groups issued a statement in support of Goode’s proposed changes, but the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Kansas City said it doesn’t believe the parkway is an appropriate place to honor King.The KC Parks and Rec Board of Commissioners do not plan to introduce a formal resolution regarding a possible name change at its next meeting, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30.Currently, there is no timeline for when, or if, the board will address the possibility of renaming the fountain and parkway.The effort to rename the fountain is not new. BROWN COUNTY, Ind. -- A Brown County woman has been charged with threatening a child welfare worker with a sword. Dixie Floyd Dorantes, 36, faces two felonies and several misdemeanor charges after waving a large sword at a DCS worker on May 3, police say. Police in Nashville, Indiana say a DCS worker had taken Dorantes' child because she had repeatedly failed to pick up the child at the Brown County YMCA. Court documents show Dorantes waved a "viking style sword" at the DCS worker after they showed up to pick up items for the child. Police say Dorantes was also involved in two car crashes as she tried to find the worker. Dorantes faces the following charges: 709

BALTIMORE, Maryland — A man running away from the Baltimore Police died after being hit by a car last week.Officers were conducting a narcotics investigation in the 2700 block of Greenmount Avenue around 8:30 p.m. March 28. When they tried to talk to 21-year-old Larry Whitfield during the investigation, he immediately started to run away. Whitfield was able to escape officers and tried to cross Greenmount Avenue when he was hit by a car traveling southbound. He was transported to a hospital where he died Friday morning. The driver of the car was not injured and stayed on the scene after the crash. Detectives are working with the narcotics unit to evaluate all the evidence from the scene. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.  785

BARTOW, Fla. — A Walt Disney World bus driver was arrested after deputies say he tried to lure a 15-year-old girl for sex.Kevin Van Orman, 35, was arrested March 25 by undercover detectives when he arrived at a home in Bartow, where he planned to meet up with the teenage girl for sexual activities.According to the Polk County, Florida Sheriff's Office, Van Orman used the app "Whisper" to respond to a post that had been placed by an undercover detective pretending to be a 15-year-old girl. 506
