A passenger vehicle intentionally hit a security barrier near the White House on Friday, a law enforcement source told CNN, though the Secret Service said the car didn't breach the secure complex that surrounds the executive mansion. The incident prompted a lockdown at the White House, where President Donald Trump had recently completed talks and a news conference with his Australian counterpart. The Secret Service said the driver of the vehicle was female and was immediately apprehended by uniformed officers. No law enforcement personnel were injured, the agency said, though traffic was diverted from the area.  630

A software flaw is being blamed for showing a positive COVID-19 test result incorrectly for more than two dozen tests. University of Kentucky laboratory scientists say they were inspecting and reviewing raw data from a testing platform when they became concerned about discrepancies in the data. They believe the testing platform, Thermo Fisher, which was authorized for emergency use by the FDA, had a software flaw that might result in false positives. After re-testing the samples using another platform, scientists confirmed that the tests initially reported as positive for COVID-19 were negative. The flaw was only found in one of the four testing platforms that UK's clinical laboratory uses.Every patient who received incorrect results is being notified about the issue. No negative results changed. UK HealthCare also has notified Thermo Fisher Scientific and the FDA."For anyone tested at UK HealthCare, it is important to know that the vast majority of results have not changed," said UK Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Dr. Mark Newman. "Since these very astute employees discovered this issue, we have taken extensive measures to validate each test in question and worked diligently to contact all parties – the vendor, the FDA -- and most importantly, our patients and providers."UK HealthCare says they are working with local health departments and the Kentucky Department of Public Health to correct all data."UK's clinical laboratory has performed more than 30,000 COVID-19 tests since March and only a very small percentage of tests have been affected by this software defect," Newman said. "Anyone who has received test results and has not been contacted this week about re-testing, should be assured their result is correct."This story originally reported by Jordan Mickle on LEX18.com. 1825

A recently published study looks at the potential of asymptomatic spread at grocery stores and the psychological distress of these essential workers.Researchers looked at a grocery store in the Boston area in May. They found 20 percent of the 104 employees tested positive for the coronavirus. This rate was significantly higher than the infection rate in the surrounding community, which was only reporting a positive rate of around 1 percent at the time.More than 75 percent of those who tested positive reported having no symptoms. Those employees who interacted with customers were five times as likely to test positive for COVID-19 compared to employees in other positions."We were definitely surprised to see that there were that many people that were asymptomatic," Dr. Justin Yang, an assistant professor at Boston University School of Medicine and a researcher at Harvard School of Public Health who worked on the study told CNN. "This is definitely very alarming as it means that retail grocery store employees are exposed to customers and sort of serve as a middleman for the virus - like a super spreader almost."The study also looked at feelings of anxiety and depression among the grocery store employees.About 24 percent of all employees reported feeling at least mild anxiety. The data suggests employees who were able to remain socially distant while at work had a lower rate of anxiety; 76 percent of those who reported having no anxiety were able to keep spacing while at work.Whereas 46 percent of those who did report having anxiety were unable to stay socially distant from coworkers or customers while on the job.About 8 percent of employees screened positive for at least mild depression symptoms on a self-reported questionnaire. Those who could not practice social distancing at work and commuted by public transportation were more likely to screen positive for depression. As a conclusion, the team of researchers hopes their findings are a call to action for providing comprehensive employee assistance services to help essential workers in all industries “cope with the psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic.”The study was published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. 2241

A member of the White House coronavirus task force encouraged people in Michigan on Sunday to "rise up" against closures enacted by the state's governor in the hopes of preventing the spread of COVID-19.On Sunday evening, hours after Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced COVID-19 policies that included the suspension of in-person learning at some schools, in-person dining at restaurants and the temporary closure of movie theaters, Dr. Scott Atlas encouraged people to resist the new measures."The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept," Atlas tweeted. 594

A Southwest flight from Nashville to Phoenix had to circle around and come back to Nashville after the plane hit a bird. The flight took off from Nashville International Airport Wednesday around 5:13 a.m. local time. The flight path showed Flight 577 circle from west to north, turning back south to head back to the airport shortly after takeoff.Scripps station WTVF in Nashville learned the flight had to land due to an Alert 1, meaning the plane possibly had a minor electrical or mechanical problem. Airline officials confirmed the plane experienced a bird strike. No injuries or other issues have been reported. The plane was taken out of service for maintenance, and the airline said they're working with affected passengers to help them on to their destinations. The incident comes just a day after one person died when a Southwest flight made an emergency landing at the Philadelphia airport when an explosion damaged an engine and broke a window. 978
