As for the recent break-in, Tom says it's not clear how the man got in, but video of the motion-activated lights suggest he was in the home for nearly an hour."It's more than a violation. You start to lose your sense of security, and that's the worst part of it," said Tom.The intruder is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, 5’6"-5’8", 155 lbs, with tattoos on both forearms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 10News was there as an emotional burglary victim was reunited with her stolen Pekachu puppy.Ashley Morales was overcome with emotion as young Lorenz Lugg placed her 4-month-old puppy back in her arms. "I can't believe it. I never thought I would get him back," said Morales.On Monday, a distraught Morales sat down with 10news after a Sunday morning burglary at her Spring Valley condo on Madrid Way. As her children slept inside, a neighbor's surveillance cameras captured several suspects as they walked in and out of the condo. Missing from the home: a television, jewelry, and Snuffles the Pekachu."I just want my dog back," said Morales, as she pleaded for her puppy's return. What she didn't know was that her puppy was at Payd 2 Fade barber shop in the College Area. Shop owner Roc Lugg says early Monday afternoon, a man resembling the suspect in the video came in with a story."He had the dog, but was homeless and living out of his vehicle. Couldn't afford to take care of the dog anymore," said Lugg. When Lugg saw how well the dog was interacting with his own dog, he decided to purchase the puppy to give him a better home. He paid 0. Later that day, his wife got a big shock as she was watching 10news. She realized their new puppy was actually someone else's. Their young son led the charge to reunite puppy and owner."I was desperate to find them and give it back to them. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two pregnant women in San Diego County have been hospitalized due to flu complications, the county's Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday. A 40-year-old woman spent 16 days in the intensive care unit and a 30-year-old woman spent nine days in the ICU. Both women were unvaccinated, in their third trimesters and contracted influenza A. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women have some of the highest risk of developing flu complications if they remain unvaccinated. “That is why they're one of the groups for which vaccination isextremely important," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Changes in the immune system, heart and lungs during pregnancy make pregnant women (and women up to two weeks after delivery) more susceptible to severe illness from the flu, which could require hospitalization." Officials from the CDC and the Health and Human Services Agency suggest that pregnant women receive the flu vaccine at any point in their pregnancy. However, the nasal spray flu vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. Flu cases in the county ticked up during the week of Dec. 9-15, according to the county's weekly influenza report. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Violent crime in San Diego County rose in the first half of the year for the fifth consecutive year, according to a report released Tuesday by the San Diego Association of Governments. The report by SANDAG's Criminal Justice Research Division found that the mid-year number of violent crimes in the county was 5,545, up from 5,510 last year; 5,421 in 2017; 5,361 in 2016; and 5,330 in 2015. The five-year increase amounts to a 4% bump in violent crime. Reports of property crime went the opposite direction, falling from 30,447 in 2015 to 27,236 in 2019, an 11% decrease. The mid-year numbers of violent and property crimes in 2019 are vastly different from 2009, when the city received 6,256 violent crime reports and 35,204 property crime reports. Violent crime reports dropped 11.4% in that span, mainly because robbery reports fell from 1,931 to 1,411, according to the SANDAG report. Despite the overall drop in robbery reports, this year's number increased 5% compared to the same six-month period last year. Arson reports saw the largest drop from last year to this year -- falling 28% from 190 to 136 -- while homicides dropped from 40 to 38. Reported property crimes fell 22.6% from 2009 to 2019 and residential burglaries saw the biggest decrease in that time, dropping 53.9% from 4,460 to 2,054. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A father and daughter were taken to the hospital for injuries related to an apartment fire in Carmel Valley Tuesday afternoon. According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, firefighters were called to an apartment complex on the 12000 block of Torrey Bluff Drive around 4:30 p.m. The department says the man was taken to the hospital with burns to his hands and face while his daughter was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The fire was reportedly contained to only one room of the apartment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze may have been started by some sort of device the father was using to smoke.
